It will cast a spell on you!

Nola Blog Cafe Du Monde photo 2017.JPGI’m back from New Orleans AKA Nola and it feels so good…especially in the month of Halloween my fav’ time of year! The city was all  decked out in bewitching hues and decor. Halloween in New Orleans is awesome. I wanted to go on a Ghost or Cemetary tour but ran out of time this trip.

I worked and played. And as always want to take you there! Even if you’ve been or never been there. Here are a few highlights of my adventures.

Cafe du Monde was at the top of my gotta go back and eat a beignet and have that famous New Orleans coffee. So,after checking into the hotel  I devoured a few and walked the streets too.

The smell of  Pralines fills the streets and air with sweetness. You have to try one! This trip I discovered some new ones in Cafe au lait and Bananas Foster flavors. So delightful!

I haven’t been there for a few years and needed to reacquaint myself with the city. My have things grown and some things have stayed the same! If only those building and sidewalks could talk to us. What would they say? Lots I am sure.

The weather was super humid and hot for October… I did not glisten like most southern women say they do. I sweat as usual! No powder or makeup setting spray saved my face. However, the last few days the weather turned into fall like. SO….Heavenly!

Since I love food, beauty, fashion and I love to explore…here is list of the best to see!

Acme Oyster Bar has the freshest and delicious oysters. If you don’t mind waiting in lines this is a great place. Not fancy and pricey.

Monteleone Hotel my fav’ hotel in the city and is an elegant charming place. It is located in the French Quarter downtown.

Carousel  Bar is inside the hotel above. It is an actual OLD carousel and it moves and so do you every 15 minutes. You gotta see this place and feel it to believe it.Drinks are delicious and appetizers too.Not your normal bar food.

Feeling lucky! In the mood to gamble? Visit Harrah’s Casino.

Irene’s is an Italian eatery with a New Orleans twist. Dinner was amazing and the pasta is made fresh daily.

Papier Plume if you are into all things stationery,REAL pens, journals and wax seals this is the place for you.

Trashy Diva is a clothing store that for the name alone you need to pop in.

Perfume there are two old world perfume shops rich in history and have signature fragrances too I will share more on this in my next blog.

Fifi Mahoney’s is where you’ll find makeup, glitter, wigs and more! They are the company behind some of the faces on floats for Mardi Gras.

New Orleans COOKING school I’ve taken a cooking class with a Cajun twist before. It never disappoints. If you’re a foodie like me…you’d love these classes.

Steamboat Natchez cruise is always a good idea!It is an old time steam boat that takes you around the Mississippi River.

The French Market is located in the Jackson Square area and is filled with shops and pop up vendors from all over the world. You can find art, fashion, old time lace umbrellas, artisan candles and soaps, voodoo dolls and so much more.

I love worshipping and visiting church and the the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis King of France is a beauty you don’t want to miss.

Did you know New Orleans has Voodoo shops,Witchery shops and Vampire shops? Worth exploring.Nola blog Witchery photo.JPG

Window Shopping is the BEST shopping. Since may last trip so many new places have opened.

Fun fact…the second day I was there. I was eating a snow ball ice  in the French Market and while sitting on a bench I noticed a float and a police car blocking the street. I ate and kept there waiting to see what might be happening. After ten minutes I was curious what this was all about. So,I walked across the street and who did I bump into on the sidewalk but Katy Perry all dolled up in an adorable so New Orleans fun feather dress. Next, I see Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. The float I now noticed had the logo of American Idol on it. So, what was about to go down was a marching band, people in costumes and a float they shot for TV to welcome the tryouts for American idol at the convention center.Nola American Idol photo

It was so fun. They were so fun! They threw Mardi Gras beads to all of us and we were part of the party. They invited us to follow the float down the streets of Nola but I chose not to. This was such an unexpected treat to my trip! I wish you could hear this video!

You never know who or what you will find in this city. My business went well and my belly was content. I continue to encourage you to explore beyond your front door.

Till my next adventure …have a beauty filled day.

PS

Pictures to come. I have been up to my lips with work since I returned. Tonight I am a guest on a panel for Fashion Group International in NE Florida. So, I have to prep for that.

Makeup Artist’s secret…

When it comes to makeup and washing your makeup brushes many of you would rather apply makeup. Same is true for washing your makeup brushes. So, if you’re looking for a quick clean fix …try this!

Instead of washing them with brush cleaner and going through a cleansing ritual after each use….NB8J8503

Simply rinse the one you use with water and then kill any bacteria that may be dancing on them with a spritz of good old witch hazel. I always keep a spray bottle of witch hazel on hand (and label it so I know what it is) Next, take the brush and rub into on a paper towel gently back and forth. Place in a brush holder and let it dry.

If you like to use witch hazel you can wash your brushes thoroughly weekly with a dimes worth of glycerin soaps and a tablespoon of witch hazel. Depending how many brushes you are washing you will need to double this recipe. Rinse your brushes well. Allow them to rest on the edge of  counter top over night.

Once a week wash them like you usually do …Or you can use my other brush cleaning recipes from previous blog posts.

Always  remember …If you want a pretty looking and clear complexion you MUST wash your beauty tools and makeup brushes. No one is going to do it for you so…Just do it!

My SPA & Makeup show beauty haul!

IECSC beauty blog haul.JPGI just enjoyed  two glorious days of awesome at the IECSC conference in beautiful FT. Lauderdale Florida.

I am jet lagged and I didn’t even fly enjoyed …and enjoyed a little bit of Palm Beach and a bit of R&R so I am energized.

There was a vibe on the show floor that happily filled the air…after Hurricane Irma beauty professionals and beauty business owners were so ready to learn and explore the show floor.

I taught my two classes and enjoyed shopping every inch of the show floor.

I sniffed, touched, played in new beauty potions and makeup shades and watched other beauty and skin care experts slay the show floor with their demos and new product releases!

Here is my beauty and skin haul!

The show floor was a candy store for the skin care pro, spa, makeup artist and beauty retailer.

Color has become bolder in makeup, skin has never been more in and the future looks bright for business! Finally!

To Go Spa has added new face masks that offer instant gratification. My fave’s is for the neck and the lips.

Farmhouse Fresh has added soaps to their line and an awesome decadent Chai and a dash of honey Shea butter lotion for the body and hands. This line is coveted by Oprah,J Lo and Kim Kardashians makeup artist have used the brands Agave Nectar on the decollete and body on the red carpet.

Sassi lashes have the most amazing human hair lashes that a lot of makeup artists were buzzing about.

Tan Towel is the safest got to tan that not only do I use but celebrities and the girl next door uses. Their face tan towel comes wrapped like a condom and is great for travel. They also have one for half body and touch up where you want a kiss of color. No orange hands,no smelly TAN,no skin cancer from baking in the sun. I love love love this product.

I purchased a new roller for the skin…It’s called Micro-needling and will explore and chat more on this in a future blog to come soon.

Blinc Mascara  doesn’t paint the lashes but tubes them with mascara has some awesome colors like purple and blue. They also added an amplified mascara to their lash lineup too. This mascara washes off with luke warm water and a washcloth. No running,no clumping!

I took in a few classes and took lots of notes in my glam notebook!

Not only are their more beauty tools and skin devices, dream creams continue to soar.

This fall it is all about BERRY hues on lips, cheeks and eyes … BOLD and beautiful. Metallics are really in too. Thank goodness the smoky eye is taking a bit of a rest.

Red lips dress to impress with the rest so don’t worry girls you can still wear your signature classic red.

I wanted to shop even more…but because of the hurricane the show floor had less vendors. Florida is still TRYING  to make a comeback.

I have a gift box to give away… How would you like to win it?

Kitchen Beauty

photo River city live 8-2017.JPGFriday on a pop culture and entertainment show here in sunny Florida called River City Live TV I shared some of my signature beauty secrets from the kitchen or your own backyard. I thought you would enjoy them!

Make a facial steam bath…to open up your pores and sweat!

Your skin will love it. Make a pot of tea water…fill a glass bowl with some of that hot water.Rub herbs in palm of your hand a bit.Place sprigs of rosemary OR fresh spearmint inside the bowl of steamy water. Allow time for it to float and infuse the aromatics from the herb.  You can also try this D.I.Y. with other fresh herbs from your fridge or garden. Place your face near the bowl and let the steam (not water) hit your face.Do this for at least 5 minutes. Rinse your face well and use your fav’ face toner and a light moisturizer next.

In a pinch and don’t have any facial scrub at home?

Try using cornmeal from your pantry!

Take a spoonful and place in a little dish. Add some water. Make a little liquid  grain like paste. Apply on a clean face and work in gentle circular motions. Stay away from your eyes and lips. Leave on for a couple of minutes and rub again gently. I like to do this on my T-zone. Rinse well and follow up with your facial toner. This is not only great for the pores but also great for dry flaky skin as a natural exfoliant.

Got stress?

A kitchen rolling pin isn’t just for baking darlingsGet it out and have your sweetie release the stress on your back and or back of legs. Use with gentle strokes. It really does wonders. Use a dash of olive or sunflower oil for some massage oil slip (like massage therapists use). I like it better than on dry skin. When you can’t see your massage therapist this works!

Roses aren’t just good to decorate your house with they also make a floral delight for your eyes. In place of cucumbers a rose petal has soft hydrating properties. They say ancient Chinese royalty loved to do this. I prefer organic roses. All you do is take a petal and place one on each side. Rest your eyes and listen to some music or enjoy the quiet in the room. Now, remove the petals and enjoy softer skin.

I LOVE making fruit or vegetable infused water.…and drink it all day. Better than coffee or sodas and they quench your thirst and make your skin happy too. On TV I showed the viewers how to make a personal bottle of this water. I found an adorable glass with a straw built in and keep it on my desk or work area.

1 container or large pitcher of spring water

1 fresh organic kiwi sliced

1 sprig of  fresh mint

ANOTHER version simply add wedges of oranges.

Allow them to set in pitcher for at least an hour or more. This lets the above make love together and makes the water taste great. Enjoy!

*Drink at room temperature. That’s what a lot of doctors say is best to do. Not ice cold.

Remember my philosophy is not all things have to come from a store…making it yourself is fun and kinda therapeutic. I hope you’ll let me know of any ideas or recipes you like to do too! I LOVE hearing from you.

xoxo

Schools Out! What can you do with…

Barbie…Your daughter or granddaughters?

Summer is still here and your daughters and grand daughters are still out of school.

Here are a few fun things to do with them this summer!

Today I shared on TV what you can do and how much fun it can be!

  • Bonding time:Do a little makeup at home day. Show them how to apply a little lipstick or gloss,a blush, nail polish and or a bit of glitter. A little goes a long way.
  • Show them how to take care of their hair or braid the hair …Barbie Hair conditioner for detangling works wonders!
  • Teach them that SUNSCREEN is a best kept beauty secret! Protecting their face and body from the sun is very important.Use dolls as demo’s.
  • Enjoy making or serving yummy refreshments like fruit infused water, pretty pink lemonade, candy,Pez and or yummy  pink cupcakes.Make it like a beauty party!
  • Another fun idea is:To show them how they can write a story book and they are the main character. All they need is an empty unlined notebook and some markers  or crayons. Encourage them to be creative.
  • Princess Patch Parties is  a local company if you’re lucky enough to live in Jacksonville Florida in the Murray Hill section of town that offers birthday and mini spa parties with facials and a little mani & pedi outing. Pink and frilly place where glitter rules! www.princesspatchgirlsspa.com
  • Lip gloss D.I.Y. with you and or their friends with a MINI bar of Hershey’s chocolate or some crushed up candy mixed with a  dash of OrganIc coconut oil from Whole Foods Market. You will need to assist children with this in the microwave for a few minutes. What you’ll have is a shiny, lip softening lip gloss. No it won’t last you’ll watch them lick it off and laugh the afternoon away.
  • I will share these ideas and more on the video from the segment. JUST A CLICK AWAY! http://www.firstcoastnews.com on The Chat
  •  ENJOY watching and hope you will try some of my outside the box ideas!
