Happy Galentine’s Day!

Yes it is a day! Made-Up in recent years but still another reason to celebrate LOVE and friendship with your gal pals, besties or even family.

Yesterday I featured on my beauty and lifestyle segment on TV ways to do just that. Grab a cup of coffee and tea and enjoy my blog with an easy D.I.Y. There is still time to throw a mini soiree. For two or for 12 besties. If you can’t do it today. You can always do it Valentine’s day or even a day over this weekend.

1. Invite friends you want to celebrate with via text, phone or email.

2.Create a theme. I like the beauty or pajama party type theme.Decorate accordingly or choose LOVE as your decor with hearts and more.

3.Think of the treats, food and drink you’d like to serve.Make a list and go get it. (Serve in disposable glassware, plates and silverware to keep it simple)

4.Examples Menu: Who doesn’t love chocolate? Get a box of chocolates or even a bag of Hershey’s Kisses. Add something sparkling.Maybe a mini cake, cheesecake or cupcakes sprinkled with lips or hearts. A pitcher of spa water:Try fresh mint and lemon water.

5.Pick up swag to giveaway. It doesn’t have to be expensive.I found the cutest mirrors with red lips at a local dollar store. Who doesn’t love a treat to take home?

6. I gather up a few ideas for conversation and to Kiss & MAKEUP. Lipsticks, eyeshadow, nail polish, fragrance or you can go as far as K Beauty sheet masks and lip scrubs.Share beauty secrets and beauty faux pas and laugh the afternoon or night away.

7. I also like a fun game. I pass around a framed piece that says” What the way YOU USE your Lipstick says about you”. Girls can’t wait to dig in their purse for their lipstick tubes to see what their tube says about them.

I hope I have given you some inspiration for a little gathering with friends and celebrate! I’d love to hear what you come up with. Talk to me. Share with me.

You don’t need a man to buy you a box of chocolates. TREAT YOURSELF!

Planning a Trip?

IMG_2879.JPGTis’ the season to vacation and or maybe just a getaway even if it is just for a weekend.

As I fly for business and pleasure often I have learned a lot through the years.

The number one thing is to make a list on what you want to pack and what you want to take. I like to make a list. Then I start pack what I need and buy what I do need. Some tings I remove after packing some things stay. Pack according to the trip you are taking. A two day beach getaway is different than a trip to Europe for 2 weeks.

Lighten Up!

  • Travel with smaller sizes or kits. If you like the IMAGE brand and are a fan of their facial treatments you’ll love to know they have travel kits. Sunscreen included!
  • Or you can buy small containers and fill them with what you want to take. Examples: sunscreen, foundation, moisturizer, hair spray and more.
  • Pack things in smaller zip lock bags of various sizes. NAIL POLISH and some other liquids will open and spread all over the place like on your clothes so keep them contained.Personally, I pack a back up bottle of nail polish (in case my nails chip and need  a touch up) in my purse NOT in my luggage. I take it on the plane zip lock bag that has any liquids I want to take.

I’ve even had this happen to me when traveling in the car. Keep nail polish and liquid foundation upright and in a sealed plastic bag.

  • Choose a color theme for your makeup wardrobe. Don’t bring ALL THE MAKEUP you own and think you have to have with you. Examples: pinks and plums, nudes and bronze and so on.Don’t take every makeup brush you own either.Keep it simple.
  • Pack a mini FIRST-AID kit and more filled with aspirin,band-aides,Tums,nail file, mini clippers, toothpicks and sewing kit. YOU decide what you want and may need.Don’t pack your medicine in your luggage you check in. Take it with you on the plane.
  • Bring snacks for the plane. You never know how long you may sit on the runway. Cheese and crackers, bananas, nuts, gummy bears or mini chocolate bars. I’ve been waiting for take off for up to 3 hours and had no food or drink. Until you are up,up and away you need to have something to snack on.
  • I like to travel with an empty bottle of water. I fill this when I get in the airport after security or when switching airplanes. I use the fountain with filtered drinking water next to the water fountains usually depending on the airport you are at. Water bottles are expensive and you can pay up to $4.00 a bottle. This bottle comes in quite handy.
  • Pack your medicine and beauty supplements wisely. No need to take the RX bottles with you. (label the contents in the pill pack.)
  • Bring a scarf to wrap around you if you are cold on the plane. They don’t have blankets for everyone unless you are in first class.
  • Down size to a smaller handbag. That big Birken bag or other purse may be nice but by taking a smaller bag you will travel lighter and love not having to carry so much with you!

I featured the above and more on TV today. If you want to watch the video go to http://www.news4jax.com  click on River City Live.

De-tubing your luscious Lipsticks!

LIP MOTEL

I think some people call it depotting I call it de-tubing as we are taking remains from a lipstick tube and placing them into a container like a plastic pill box  (We makeup artists have done this for a long time and it was our beauty secret on set) But as the beauty world continues to grow and explode we now have all kinds of containers to place them in like the one above!

Why do you want to detube? Well if your fav’ lipstick is:

  • Discontinued and you want to savour the last lipstick drop?
  • Melted
  • Broke
  • Got smooshed in the cap because you forgot to roll it down all the way before capping.

12 spaces hold your discontinued, tired, oldie but goodie, melted and broken  lipsticks. Or you can actually scoop out a brand new lipstick into an empty container like this.

Step.1 Buy a container or pill pack

Step 2. Get a mini cocktail knife, mini spatula or artists palette ready and at hand.

Step 3.Line up the lipsticks you want to fill the kit with

Step 4. Wash your hands with soap and warm water or put plastic gloves on.It can get messy and you want to keep it clean and sanitary too.

Step 5.Scoop out or cut slices of your lipstick into the empty container or pill box.

Step 6. Press and pat down with your fingers or spatula each color filled space you fill.

Step 7. Place a piece of saran wrap on top and pat down some more on the saran wrap.

Step 8. Optional:Take a cheap blow dryer (not high watt) and blow across the top of the kit moving quickly and across once. This sets your lipsticks in the Lip Motel.

Remember…you don’t have to fill them all at once. A few at a time is fine.

You are all set and ready to mix and match the hues with your lip brush. The best and most fun part?

You can make NEW lipstick shades out of all these bits and pieces.

Optional Tip:

I like to FREEZE my kit in the freezer for approximately 1/2 hour or more if you’d like. Doing this will firm the lipsticks up and harden them up a bit.

*HAPPY to say my Lip Motel was featured in Jacksonville magazine July issue!

George Clooney not included!

nespresso-photo

I’m serious about and appreciate and good cup of coffee.

And my passion for desert flavors is real too. So I simply had to bring to your attention the new limited edition flavors of Nespresso.

Think Banana bread,Pumpkin Spice Cake and Gingerbread…all yum on the tongue. These are the new coffee capsules the company added to the already finest bean coffee’s they make. My lips just can’t resist.

I am in love with this top of the line brand. The Vertuoline Evolou machine brews the best cup of coffee I ever had. Really! And the unique centrifusion technology makes it buzz with delight. This one cup delight brews a mean aromatic cup of coffee in approx 20 something seconds. It is EASY to use…and comes out FAST,FRESH and FABULOUS!

And the cherry on top is the cafe like quality on top which is called crema…a generous frothy layer of love. I don’t use sugar because I am sweet enough and quite frankly I like the taste of it without it. The coffee machine also makes a delightful cup of espresso. Just like I have enjoyed in  Italia.

So you know what to do…if you are looking for the perfect gift for HIM,for her or for yourself. This is so worth it.

You gotta trust me on this. And of course actors George Clooney and Danny Di Vito will say that too.We foodies have to stick together.

Try it …you’ll LOVE it.

Pumpkin Pie Holiday

pumpkin-scrub-blog-photoI know you love pumpkin! We cannot seem to get enough of it.

Coffee, beer, muffins, bread, pie and more.So here is another one of my recipes for a my pumpkin pie body scrub in a jar. Pumpkin puree contains beta-carotene and anti-0xidants,brown sugar helps remove dead skin. Olive oil and a vitamin E pill (prick and squeeze out the oil) and OR use oil by the bottle add even more of the moisturizing your skin bliss.

1 can pumpkin puree (you’ll need 1/4 cup) Go for the real thing.

2  cups of brown sugar

2 tsp. olive oil or jojoba

optional:1 tsp. vitamin E oil

1/4 or 1 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice (this will make the body scrub even more luscious and have the aroma of cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves). I like to sprinkle this on top!

Stir this all together and you will have an amazing scrumptious body scrub and wonderful for your heels too! It is like a pumpkin pie slathered over your body!

I like to make gifts in jelly jars for myself or someone else!

Add a mini spoon, bow, love note and you’re good to go.

Nice stocking stuffer or hostess gift add a pumpkin pie or a bottle of sangria to your gift and who ever you give it to will really love you.

Play and see what you come up with. I’d love to hear from you on any D.I.Y. recipes you might whip up and love too!
