Gifts just for the guys in your life!

Today on TV I’m sharing some unique and fun ideas for gift ideas just for the man or men in your life. Husband, boyfriend, son, grandpa or”bestie” guy.

Some I have given to my husband and some ideas are so imely for today!

The thing is we often think we need those gifts to be LARGE in size and price! And designer brand names too! But I have learned that’s not always necessary. With a little age comes wisdom. The holidays don’t have to be so stressful. It isn’t even our Birthday!!! (YOU know the TRUE meaning of the Christmas season)

Sometimes the most awesome gifts are from your heart and with a little reflection and thought when it comes to that special someone!

If you are looking for a gift or stocking stuffer for that special someone. Stay tuned to http://www.wjxt.com on live stream and or watch the video from today’s show tonight when you have a chance to relax and enjoy.  The show is River City Live and it airs at 11:00am-12:00 noon.

HINT…one of the items has a first time offer and is specially priced at $5.00 online. Other gifts I have found at Hobby Lobby, grocery stores,Dollar stores and more.

If you are able to watch me on TV today that’s great …if not check out my blog later tonight and the next few days.

Looking for beauty? Go to your kitchen.

You’ll find beauty in a pitch!

After you make that cup of Joe take some of the coffee grinds and put them in a bowl …allow them to cool. Mix with a dash of coconut oil and you an awesome and cheap coffee scrub for your body. They say it is great for cellulite too.

Rinse well after a nice scrubbing and be careful tub may be slippery. But so worth it!!!

Kool-Aid makes a pretty and yummy LIPS STAIN in a pinch. Celebrities love to use this hack. Simply open a pack of this powdered drink and mix with a dash of water. Apply with a lip brush or Q-tip. You’ll have a pretty tint to your lips and it will taste good too.

Got an avocado browning that isn’t pretty looking or quite edible? Cut it open and mash and you have a creamy hydrating face mask. Apply to a clean face and leave on at least 10 minutes. Softer skin in a few minutes.

Mint all kinds (peppermint, spearmint and more) they make an aromatic facial steam. Boil water, let it cool and flat a few torn leaves into a bowl with the water. Allowing only the steam to rise up to your face. Feels so good, gentle lifts any left over makeup or soap on your skin.

Lastly another fave of mine is to use cornmeal to exfoliate my skin and polish it too.

I am working on the cooking stage today sharing my fav’ beauty in a pinch that you can find in your kitchen. These are easy to use and on the cheap. Enjoy!

Come back for more!

Time to step into autumn’s new face!

It is that time of year when the seasons start to change and you start craving new colors in makeup! If you’re not you’re missing out on the fun. This autumn  it is really all about looking your best with whatever hues you choose to use. OVER slaying and over the top contouring and highlighting is out.

YOUR face doesn’t need that!

You simply need a few new pieces to add to your makeup wardrobe.

It doesn’t matter where you shop for them it only matters that you are able to  TEST DRIVE and play with a few choices to see how they look on you. Don’t be in a rush. Take a little time for yourself. It should be a fun process. The colors of the moment for your lips are BOLD rich colored lips,a soft brown lip,a touch of mauve and the classic red lipstick.

Black winged eyeliner still rules but so does a bold blue or other colored hue. And the black liner is graphic and artsy like in the application.

I like to buy KITS for the season. This way you have all you need at your fingertips especially when you travel. It also gives you a chance to experiment and play with more shades you may never have tried before.

It is also time to buy a new tube of sunscreen. Yes, even in winter needs sun protection. Even from the glare of the snow.

You might want to lighten up that foundation and or face powder to suit your lighter skin look.

You don’t want what I call ring around the face. Also now is the time to add a bit of moisture to your skin by adding a new serum, eye gel and or primer to make your makeup last longer.

So, it continues to be a hectic but fun new year. This week I am getting ready for a few guest speaking engagements I am doing. I’ll tell you all about them when I return.

In the meantime…

Go window shop and cruise your city to discover what’s out there in the beauty world waiting for you this fall!

The RIGHT way to apply moisturizer!

Yes, there is a right and wrong way to apply it.

#1. Apply as soon as you drop that wash cloth or towel out of the shower. It is best to apply while your face is damp. Doing this will seal the water into your skin.

#2. It doesn’t matter if your cream is $275.00 a jar or $10.00. Both price points will work and moisturizing the skin.

#3.Choose one with hyaluronic acid, ceramides, retinol…if you have at least one of these ingredients on the label. (dermatologists recommend these) These hydrate and plump your skin beautifully.

#4.Apply your moisturizer with a patting and pressing motion. PLEASE don’t rub into your skin in strong construction worker movements. It hurts my eyes when I see the heavy duty way women apply moisturizer or even liquid foundation. Be gentle with your skin!

Cool Yourself Off!

Baby it’s so HOT outside! And my COMPLEXION is not seeing perfection. My pores hate me and appear to be the size of swimming pools and my skin is pretty shiny in some areas and tight in others. How about you?

I have always LOVED doing a form of Cryotherapy since I was a little girl! Only the treatment had not come out yet and entered the beauty universe. Here’s how I did it. When it is hot like this I  take water fill an ice cube tray and freeze them. If you want to add fruit or flowers inside before you freeze them…go at it. It makes them prettier too!

Next your freshly clean face is ready for a cooooool delight.I apply an ice cube (I sort of warm up a few seconds in my hand so no freezer burn face) Roll around and go up and down. I do not do the eyelid. This icy treat will chill you down quick! If you are hot on the neck and breast area roll a fresh cube there too.Use until you are done with the cube or save to use another time in a bowl in the freezer.

Using  ice cubes will tighten your skin and pores, refresh your skin and cool you down. white floral ice cube

Follow this ice cube treat with a HYDRATING tall glass of water with fresh mint (spearmint or peppermint) and fresh lemon slices. The key here is not to drink it iced much or no ice at all.The digestive tract does not like REALLY ICED water or drinks. In order to detox your system from all the sweet drinks and coffee you had all week. TRY this room temperature way. In the winter we will try something else but this is great for our bodies especially nowadays in this summer season.Skip a plastic straw that’s what I do… however,I’ve discovered the beauty of paper straws and reusable straws.

The lemony with a hint of mint water is a nice refreshing way to drink water and I love to serve it to my husband, family and when company comes over. ENJOY!

Happy NATIONAL Lipstick Day,Gorgeous!

What a wonderful day! Celebrating National Lipstick Day!

Those of you who follow my blog  know I am addicted to magazines and all things lips! At any given time I can have up to 6 to 10 lipsticks in my handbag or maybe a gloss and a lip balm too. I never know what girl I feel like each day sometimes throughout the day. That is why I carry a collection of my gal pals with me.

Here is my point of view as a beauty professional and makeup artist on lipstick!

These days there are no rules on what color you should buy.

Today ANYTHING goes. If you feel good in it. Wear it!!!

When choosing lipsticks always remember:

  • The darker the lipstick you choose the smaller your lips will appear.
  • If your lips are fuller choose a medium to deep shade to make them look smaller.
  • To make lips look larger choose a light, medium to shimmery shade.
  • To highlight the lips and give a sexier pout choose a lighter hue with a sparkle, glitter or frost.
  • Don’t forget a lip liner is not a lipstick! If it was it would be called a lipstick. Lip liner gives shape and definition to the lips. If you use it as a lipstick all the time it will make your lips chapped, peel and very dry. Ouch! Not a good look.
  • To make your lipstick last longer apply a Lipstick Base on your lips first.Think of it  like a foundation for your lips.
  •  If you want your lipstick to stay in place try an invisible lip liner.
  •  Don’t try more than  3 or 4 lipstick when shopping. The skin on your lips will reflect that.
  • Try not to test lipstick on the top of your hands. Turn your hand over and test drive them on the fuller part of your palm near your wrist and at your thumb. That section is more like your lips.
  • Next time you go shopping for lipstick and makeup. Buy a hue that you would never buy for you! It just may be your fav’ color yet!

Have you been spending time baking like croissants in the sun?

Or have you been  spending time doing different things in all places in the sun this season.

If you  have… perhaps a sunburn has come your way or worse yet …sunburn, red as a lobster, blistering and dreaded peeling.

Recently I showed  TV viewers simple home remedies you can do when you have had too much fun in the sun! So, I am sharing them with you. I LOVE THE SUN but got burned a few times. One was pretty bad. I also enjoyed the tan from a tanning bad. I cover up NOW and have never done it again. Really! Once you get skin cancer you never forget it. Neither does your skin. Your skin always remembers how you treat it and will show it too!

  • Apple cider vinegar: Take a bath in it. It will make you feel so much better. Fill a tub with luke warm or cool water and a cup of the apple cider vinegar.
  • Baking soda:Make a cooling paste with it and some water or take a refreshing bath in it with a cup of baking soda.
  • Fresh aloe or Aloe Vera gel are so cooling and take down the redness and heat from the burn.
  • Stay Hydrated with water, coconut water, sports drink or a skin loving drink called All Beauty Drink.
  • Cool Milk compresses on a washcloth or a cotton gauze pad work wonders.

  • To calm the heat of your body from the burn fill a mini spray bottle with lavender oil and water. Shake it up and spray on the burn. You’ll cool off immediately!
  • You’ll FEEL BETTER and cooler in no time with my tips and easy home remedies and hopefully not blister and peel. If you do. Here’s what to do! An oatmeal and water bath will help with that itchy skin.

Look what I found…

Oh Allure magazine I can’t seem to throw you away!

My husband calls my magazines junk I call you ALLURE  my beauty bible, research, fun and more!

He really doesn’t have anything against the magazines might I add NEATLY stacked on my bedroom and makeup studio floors…he simply wants me to enjoy them via an iPad and not hard copy.

Call me old fashion girl !  I LOVE turning those pages and the smell of the paper pages. You can’t get that on an iPad.I even love to share and recycle them too. Knowledge is power …Right?

I just don’t understand why he wants to rain on my love for magazines parade.

Do you?

The other day I was cleaning and rearranging my walk in closet and discovered a stack of magazines I saved. Vogue and more. My fave find was the first few editions of ALLURE. Look closely it is from July 1991. The magazine started by Linda Wells as the first of it’s kind arrived on the newsstands and into my heart in March 1991.Allure is not even found in this size and print. It is much smaller and like the usual size of  magazines nowadays. He thinks I should throw them out. I have covered them in tissue paper, placed them in plastic and stored them in my closet where he won’t be able to bother them. Nor have to look at them.

As a girl,a professional makeup artist, skin therapist and beauty business owner I so LOVE my BEAUTY FILLED Allure magazine!

Yes I so LOVE my Allure. What’s not to love and explore every month?

What are YOUR thoughts?

Eat your Apples and Wear them too! I do!

I LOVE TO EAT APPLES! You should too!

Here are my DIY recipes to enjoy more of them too. It is Fall and apple season.

Awesome Fresh Apple Mask for Normal to Dry Skin:APPLE photo

Fresh Apple Mask for Normal to Combination Skin
· Mix two tablespoons of crushed oats along (not instant oatmeal) with pureed or grated red apples and add teaspoon of honey.
· Apply the mask on your face for 20 minutes, and wash it with warm water.
· Apply your favorite moisturizer and eye gel.

You know what they say …“An apple a day keeps a doctor away”.

This beautiful fruit is rich in vitamin C, vitamin A and copper, which your skin LOVES!

The vitamin C helps to re-store the collagen content of the skin. Collagen adds the elasticity to the skin, thus helps to kiss wrinkles “Goodbye” The copper content in the apple helps to maintain the melanin production in the skin. Apples act as a natural sunscreen. The vitamin A assists in building of new skin cells.

Got any left over pieces of apple? EAT them.

Enjoy the beauty of all the fruits and vegetables of fall.
