Jamie Chung’s ascent from reality star (The Real World) to respected actress is something to be admired and lucky for us, her time in the spotlight also includes the kind of celeb advice we can actually use. For starters, “The Gifted” star’s Instagram is an unofficial hub of inspiration for travel destinations, beauty products and…
I lOVE to play in my kitchen either trying out new recipes or whipping up some fun with beauty products and make my own creations. Over the summer holidays and partying we tend to forget about removing our makeup and crash out. But please don’t do that! Your skin needs to be cleansed at night even if you didn’t wear makeup that day.
So, if you are looking for a little fun today or tonight and D.I.Y. try this easy step skin recipe.
3 tablespoons Aloe Vera gel ( I prefer it from a fresh plant)
1 tablespoon of Jojoba ( The brand Aura Cacia makes an awesome one)
1 tablespoon of organic coconut oil (I LOVE the Whole Foods brand)
- Now here we go. I warm a small amount of jojoba in a pan on low heat. This will happen in seconds.
- Next, I add the coconut oil and stir some more. A add the aloe vera gel. Turn off the stove top.
- Stir these ingredients well and pour in a round (big mouth jar) preferably a glass jar or mini bowl.
Enjoy! Refrigerate any leftovers to keep the cleanser preserved until next time you use it.
Like everything this has a shelf life so use it up quick!
This recipe makes a Gentle Makeup Remover that softens your skin and removes makeup at the same time. Use a mini scoop or mini spatula to apply it to your palms and remove your makeup. Then wash your face with your fave gel soap cleanser or soap bar made for the complexion. Not a deodorant bar. Your face deserves the best! The deodorant bars are meant for your under arms and other body parts. Your face deserves TLC attention with the right stuff.
Please note: if you are allergic to any of the ingredients don’t use it in this recipe.
Your skin will love you… If you’re into natural beauty this plant based complexion treat is for YOU!
By the way, if you’d like to make this with a touch of fragrance try adding a sprinkle of your fave’ essential oil. My go to and fave is lovely relaxing lavender…especially before bed.
Sweet dreams and prettier healthy looking skin!
Is so much fun!
This weekend we celebrate Memorial day weekend with barbeques, cocktails and spending time outdoors in the SUNSHINE! While Florida is not going to get a piece of that sunny pie due to the subtropical storm that’s headed our way you may get your share of fun in the sun.
SAVE that pretty face!
Use a self tanner a few days or the night before you go out in the sun. You’ll get a dash of color and feel better too.
Sunscreen! MY ANTI-AGING DREAM CREAM! A shot glass applied to your skin at least every 4 hours will cover you!
Did you know there are many other ways you can protect your skin from the sun? Powder up with Sun Powder. A light powder with sunscreen that protects and evens out your complexion a bit.
Wear a lip conditioner or a hydrating lipstick but stay away from glossy extra shiny lip gloss. They attract the sun to your face and may actually give you a sunburn.
Wear SUNNIES but buy non reflective shiny sunglasses While I love the way they look they too attract the suns rays and can give you a burn.
Wear a pretty or fun in the sun hat…any kind of hat. Did you know even your scalp and hair can get a sunburn?
If you do happen to get sunburned on your face this summer season …HELP is your refrigerator. Plain organic yogurt works wonders to calm the heat and your skin down.
Another trick is to bathe in real milk (This was Cleopatra’s beauty secret). OR pour some milk on wash cloth with cold milk. Applied to your skin it cools you down and helps with sunburn and peeling.
Nowadays…There is NO REASON why you have to get a sunburn.
You don’t want old leathery looking skin, sunspots, red splotches, wrinkles or worse yet skin cancer. Do you?
I know you’re busy were all busy especially around the holidays. Lately I have bumped into clients out and about town who come or have come to my makeup studio in sunny Florida. However, they cover their faces and tell me please don’t look at me. I look awful. That’s kinda sad don’t you think?
If all you have is five minutes here is what you need.
A sheer foundation like Not Your Mothers Foundation or a powder foundation in a compact. Apply a sheer amount on your face staying away from your eyes and lips.
Next, blend a dash of concealer in a lipstick tube.Apply where you need coverage…eyelids, under eye and on sun or red spots.
A dash of eye shadow all over the lid…Look for a shade like a Champagne,Pink Champagne or a soft beige gold hue.Yes all you will need is one shade. NOT two or three.
YES, mascara is optional but liner is a must…it not only lines your eyes and accents them it also can create the look like you applied mascara but it is only eye liner eye pencil you have on. You actually don’t need both.
A kiss of blush or powder bronzer applied with a fan brush to give a warmth to your complexion.
A swipe of lipstick, lip gloss or lip balm…wraps up the look.
See how fast and so EASY this 5 minute face can be to do? There’s no excuse why you can’t do this too.
My model is my girlfriend Nancy doesn’t she look awesome and pretty naturally?
If you have a holiday party to do and want to look good too…with not a lot of time involved…go for it!
Share with me,chat with me…I LOVE hearing from you and your sharing a beauty secret or two with me.
Hope you are enjoying the beauty of this holiday season.
When it comes to makeup and washing your makeup brushes many of you would rather apply makeup. Same is true for washing your makeup brushes. So, if you’re looking for a quick clean fix …try this!
Instead of washing them with brush cleaner and going through a cleansing ritual after each use….
Simply rinse the one you use with water and then kill any bacteria that may be dancing on them with a spritz of good old witch hazel. I always keep a spray bottle of witch hazel on hand (and label it so I know what it is) Next, take the brush and rub into on a paper towel gently back and forth. Place in a brush holder and let it dry.
If you like to use witch hazel you can wash your brushes thoroughly weekly with a dimes worth of glycerin soaps and a tablespoon of witch hazel. Depending how many brushes you are washing you will need to double this recipe. Rinse your brushes well. Allow them to rest on the edge of counter top over night.
Once a week wash them like you usually do …Or you can use my other brush cleaning recipes from previous blog posts.
Always remember …If you want a pretty looking and clear complexion you MUST wash your beauty tools and makeup brushes. No one is going to do it for you so…Just do it!
Friday on a pop culture and entertainment show here in sunny Florida called River City Live TV I shared some of my signature beauty secrets from the kitchen or your own backyard. I thought you would enjoy them!
Make a facial steam bath…to open up your pores and sweat!
Your skin will love it. Make a pot of tea water…fill a glass bowl with some of that hot water.Rub herbs in palm of your hand a bit.Place sprigs of rosemary OR fresh spearmint inside the bowl of steamy water. Allow time for it to float and infuse the aromatics from the herb. You can also try this D.I.Y. with other fresh herbs from your fridge or garden. Place your face near the bowl and let the steam (not water) hit your face.Do this for at least 5 minutes. Rinse your face well and use your fav’ face toner and a light moisturizer next.
In a pinch and don’t have any facial scrub at home?
Try using cornmeal from your pantry!
Take a spoonful and place in a little dish. Add some water. Make a little liquid grain like paste. Apply on a clean face and work in gentle circular motions. Stay away from your eyes and lips. Leave on for a couple of minutes and rub again gently. I like to do this on my T-zone. Rinse well and follow up with your facial toner. This is not only great for the pores but also great for dry flaky skin as a natural exfoliant.
A kitchen rolling pin isn’t just for baking darlings…Get it out and have your sweetie release the stress on your back and or back of legs. Use with gentle strokes. It really does wonders. Use a dash of olive or sunflower oil for some massage oil slip (like massage therapists use). I like it better than on dry skin. When you can’t see your massage therapist this works!
Roses aren’t just good to decorate your house with they also make a floral delight for your eyes. In place of cucumbers a rose petal has soft hydrating properties. They say ancient Chinese royalty loved to do this. I prefer organic roses. All you do is take a petal and place one on each side. Rest your eyes and listen to some music or enjoy the quiet in the room. Now, remove the petals and enjoy softer skin.
I LOVE making fruit or vegetable infused water.…and drink it all day. Better than coffee or sodas and they quench your thirst and make your skin happy too. On TV I showed the viewers how to make a personal bottle of this water. I found an adorable glass with a straw built in and keep it on my desk or work area.
1 container or large pitcher of spring water
1 fresh organic kiwi sliced
1 sprig of fresh mint
ANOTHER version simply add wedges of oranges.
Allow them to set in pitcher for at least an hour or more. This lets the above make love together and makes the water taste great. Enjoy!
*Drink at room temperature. That’s what a lot of doctors say is best to do. Not ice cold.
Remember my philosophy is not all things have to come from a store…making it yourself is fun and kinda therapeutic. I hope you’ll let me know of any ideas or recipes you like to do too! I LOVE hearing from you.

Don’t you just LOVE a sunny day?
It really makes me happier, think better and I know more productive.
How about you? What does the sun do for you? While I live in Florida. I spent more time at the beaches of New York and New Jersey shore than I do now.Crazy huh? After getting stung by skin cancer I just can’t spend a lot of time out there. Being in the beauty and spa business I really have to practice what I preach.
BUT when I do go here are a few of my fave things to take and do to make your day in the sun more fun.
- At the top of my list I have to remind all you girls who are baking like cookies on the beach…to PROTECT yourself. Apply a shot glass size of sunscreen at least a half an hour before you leave.
- Freeze fresh grapes and blueberries overnight and pack in snack bags to enjoy a refreshing treat at the beach. Watermelon (do not freeze)cubes is another cool you down treat.
- Make your own fruit or vegetable infused water and put in a travel glass or bottle for sipping.
Examples: Kiwi and Strawberry slices or watermelon and mint. Get creative. But beware of citrus as it may interfere with your skin care and you can open the door to more sensitive skin in the sun = sun spots.
- Apply a quarter size of almond oil to your hair and comb it back and up away from your face. Your hair will condition while you spend your day at the beach.
- Give your feet foot facial by taking a walk on the beach near the water. The WET sand is cheaper than any potion you can buy on the beauty store shelf.
- Rub in sunflower or almond oil on your cuticles (hand and feet) your skin will hydrate while you beach.
- Get some exercise and rev up that heart and walk or take a short run.
- Bring out you inner child and build a mini castle or sculpture …it will exfoliate rough fingers hands too.
- Hunt for seashells that might have a hole in them and create a necklace when you get home of it to remind you of your time. I have some from Hawaii and every time I wear or look at them I think of my awesome trip.Beautiful memories.
Have fun in the sun and protect that pretty face!
Low on cash and want to refresh your feet and last months pedicure?
- Soak your cares away with Epsom salt and Peppermint essential oil or fresh peppermint or mint leaves from your garden in a warm water foot bath. It is very soothing and cools the skin especially after a long hot day!
- Soaking your feet for 15 minutes with Epsom salts also refreshes the soles and take down any swelling of the ankles and feet.
- Clean well around your nails and toes with a nail brush, orange wood stick and file any rough nail edges.
- When done apply a hydrating salve or lotion like Smith’s RoseBud Salve. It is fabulous for your feet, heels, cuticles, lips, brows and unwanted hair around your hairline. Celebrities and models love this product.
- Skip the nail polish if you’d like or apply a fabulous color. It is fine to give your nails a vacay from polish.
- Your feet and skin will look and feel amazing.
- Have a sexy summer Ladies!Have a question or beauty dilemma…Ask ME …Noreen email@example.com
In Florida we went from a mild winter, to maybe 4 days of Spring and NOW summer and it isn’t not even summer! As a Northerner who moved to Florida for her southern husband I hate it. I know I should be grateful for palm trees and sunshine but the heat SUCKS!
Here is a recipe I found from InStyle magazine that I think is pretty cool in more ways than one.
I love this recipe!
1 cup of room-temperature water.
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1 tablespoon of Agave nectar
1/8 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
Place all in a glass. Stir and enjoy!
And it makes you pee lots because it is hydrating, cooling and eliminating!
The beauty of this recipe is it is Aussie super-model Elle Macpherson’s lemonade drink recipe and we know how fabulous her body is along with those LONG lovely legs.
No wonder she has been on the cover of Sports Illustrated five times! Drink up and refresh yourselves!
