Food & Fun finds from my trip to NYC!

34th Street Herald Square is the center if it all. Macy’s where I used to work early on in my beauty & fashion career is THE place to stop. It is their flagship store where it all began. You know it from the Macy’s Thanksgiving day parade.

The one and only Macy’s 34th Street

Macy’s has so much to offer from beauty, to fashion to fabulous food and drinks! There is something for everyone!

They evdd we n have their own Merch shop as well as I Love ❤️ NY gifts and fun finds.

Seventh Avenue and around the corners is Fashion Ave. You’ll see all kinds of businesses and racks of fresh made clothing and boxes of handbags and shoes zipping in and out of the street into the buildings. This is where a lot of the fast fashions are made! It also where up and coming designers get discovered.

If you are a creative spirit and like to make things and see… on these streets by Macy’s you’ll see the Garment districts novelty suppliers. They will even sell to you if you have the money. From sequins, glitter, to decorative ribbons and the most amazing and unique buttons and more! You just have to explore!

This district and shopping in the different neighborhood boutiques and stores in Soho, the Village and other shops in downtown NY. You’ll have a ball! Just give yourself time to explore!

Uptown is yet another Mecca of shopping and fashionable fun. There’s even a thrift store that is filled with designer clothing and accessories. NYC has the most amazing shopping.

This area of NY is where you might even bump into Sarah Jessica Parker as Sex and the City shoots there and she lives in the area.

A trip uptown cannot be complete without a stop at Bloomingdales Dept. store where I worked in the cosmetics department. You never know who you might see visiting the store. I’ll never forget seeing one of my first celebrities. Actor Sylvester Stallone of boxing 🥊 movie fame stopped to shop my cosmetic counter and had a few haircare questions. It was pretty exciting.

Chinatown is yet another section of NYC you need to visit. Send Chinatown some ❤️ LOVE. They need your business. It is “lit” right now with so many new eateries, bakeries, drink spots and delicious street vendors.

No one does dumplings 🥟 like Chinatown!

Chinatown gift shops, decor and more is yet another reason to shop there. So many unique things.

By the way, actors George Clooney and Brad Pitt have been there in Chinatown shooting a movie! I’m a fan!

The “Hells Kitchen” area is home to some awesome places to shop and eat. One of my favorites in the area is The legendary Little Pie Company bakery. Never disappoints.

As you can see I always fit in time to taste and enjoy all the city has to offer when I guest speak at spa bad wellness shows. The International Esthetics Cosmetics and Spa conference was even more wonderful this year!

Pack a travel journal,a pen and wear comfortable shoes and clothes to explore all that New York City has to offer.
It’s showtime! The IECSC spa show

It was so great to not only educate but also reconnect with my beauty community. The show is EXCLUSIVE to beauty professionals, estheticians, makeup artists, massage therapists, nail techs, spas, salons and beauty business owners.

The fashion & beauty forecast I saw was Color IS Going strong in fashion. And Makeup is either bold or minimal. SKIN continues to be IN. Healthy looking pretty skin!

No Tricks Just an Awesome Glow!

Why can’t I stop eating those iconic marshmallow Peeps chicks 🐣 and bunnies 🐰??? I am not picky about the color either. “Hello, yellow, mint, purple and blue”… it doesn’t matter what color it is I LOVE them ALL !!!

I know better and my skin and body do too!

I am a twin and I think one side of me 💕loves sweet and delightful on the tongue. The other side of me 💕 loves, broccoli, green peppers, celery, sweet potatoes, mixed salad greens, corn, apples, bananas and more!

For Peeps sake… do you have this sweet and squishy marshmallow obsession?

Let me know. Let’s chat 💬 Peeps!

My Easter table…

One of my most cherished memories since childhood are the Easter 🐣 eggs. Not your ordinary colored eggs but hand painted with old world charm. The Polish and Ukranian neighborhoods made them, sold them and displayed them at art festivals. Oh how gorgeous they were. And even as a make-up artist I could never draw or painted the way they did.

The most beautiful hand-painted Easter eggs!

The art is called Pisanki… which means to write. A centuries old tradition and still created and celebrated today.

You can also find them at online stores and art walks in wooden form. You can decorate your home or holiday table with them on Easter 🐣 🥚 or year round.

Today I am making an Easter meal with Polish kielbasa, pierogi, glazed beets and rye bread (since I don’t have that sweet bread babka).

My mom will be celebrated in my heart 💜 today. She was a wonderful mom and lovely and Polish. I’ll toast to her with a shot of blackberry brandy.

My southern husband enjoys all kinds of food and I’m lucky for that because he’s not just a meant and potatoes man on a daily basis. We dine out, pick up take-out or cook with international bites and delights. Some recipes we get online but others are discovered from our ✈️ travels.

How about you? What are some of your favorite memories from Easter growing up or now?

Happy Easter, Passover or Ramadan… wherever you are in our beautiful world.

Always wanted to do it!

What did I want to do???

Getting ready for a new year…this time the Lunar New Year!

February 1st is on the way. If you didn’t like the way 2022 started there is still time to ring in a new one. YOU don’t have to be Asian to celebrate the New Year1

I am not sure if you know it but I am an American and made in America too. And my nationality is a blend of Chinese and European. I have enjoyed all kinds of Asian food and love my Asian friends too.

Chinatown all over the USA are my go to when traveling. So much to explore and so much fun in doing so. All without a plane trip to Asia.

So here’s a peek into a few things about the Lunar New Year. I used to think that only Chinese people celebrate the lunar new year. But did you know not only the Chinese celebrate it the people of Vietnam,South Korea, Singapore and Malaysia do too. So over the next week into the month of February I will be sharing some fun facts and customs you will enjoy as well as some foodie & beauty rituals and delicious recipes.

To prepare and in anticipation of the new year celebration most Asians go shopping for gold and red decor. Lanterns, signs, artwork, candles, red light bulbs and other table top decorations for the meal and home decor. These colors they say bring wealth and good luck! So that is why they surround themselves in these hues.

Asian people stock up on incense to perfume the air for protection and ward off evil spirits at their door. Although it is burned year round at homes and in temples for prayer, meditation and celebrations.

Sandalwood incense rules! When I visited Hong Kong and beyond the cities smelled so lovely with this aromatic scent. I have been burning these sticks since I was a teen. Burning incense for me is quite calming and soothing to your space. Work or home.

They not only stock up on groceries, fruit, ingredients for making dumplings, noodle dishes and buy fresh fish for the new year celebration. They also buy the Togetherness bowl of snacks that is given as a gift or served with an array of nuts, dried fruits and coconut pieces, melon seeds and more. Kumquats and oranges are also enjoyed during this time. Flowers are also celebrated and decorated with all around the house.

They clean their houses and change bed linens to be ready and fresh for the new year to begin.

They also BUY new clothes to wear to celebrate the new year in. It isn’t like our traditional date night new years eve. The lunar new year is all about FAMILY ❤️which they think is the best gift 🎁 of all.

Today On TV it is all things Asian beauty and gifts & more!

You don’t have to be Asian to celebrate the Chinese or Lunar New Year. I LOVE celebrating every day I am alive!

The beauty of the lunar new year is it is rich in traditions and delicious fun!

Here are 10 Ways You Can Do It:

Let’s get this party started! If you want to celebrate send an invitation by MAIL. Yes, snail mail (I am not fond of that description) is the BEST mail. We are bombarded with IPHONE and computer emails and nothing seems special anymore! This invite can be to be with your BAE, bestie, family and friends.

*Did you know that the US POSTAL service sells beautiful forever stamps every year? This year it is all about the Year of the Tiger.

*You can easily celebrate with your own family by ordering TAKE OUT and supporting the sweet small businesses in your community. We small business owners ALL need your business. Don’t be afraid to order food that’s new to you. And don’t forget to order the noodle dishes…they represent LONG life in the new year.

*Brew and serve a pot of hot green or jasmine tea and serve a fortune cookie or Asian cake. I also recommend serving oranges or kumquats. IF you want to explore and serve slices of DRAGON FRUIT which is known to help gut health, your immune system and your skin look its best.

*Set the table with plates and bowls or just find Chinese Take Out containers to serve in. Not much clean up!

*Be authentic and set the table with chopsticks. Make them LEARN how to use them. It just may be quite amusing. The Asian grocery stores even have chopsticks for children and adults so many gorgeous styles and patterns to choose from.

Decorate with red and gold. Lanterns and more. Maybe you can find a Tiger 🐅 figurine.

*Make party favors so everyone gets a treat to go home with. I love to use small decorative take out boxes or organza bags to put the token gift in.

*If you’re feeling adventurous have a FORTUNE COOKIE making party! They are easy and so fun to make!

If you’re looking for a great gift for your Valentine ❤️ this year. Perhaps you might consider giving a gift of food and drink for the kitchen. Or a bamboo steamer filled with Asian beauty products.

Whatever you do you’ve got 15 days to celebrate 🎊 it with your family and friends too!

Sliders!

I love makeup but I also love to cook. Let’s celebrate every single day in our own way! Missing going to our fave Mexican eatery I had a craving for something. So I am making Margaritas and a crisp cold salad and this recipe. I am watching my calories since the pandemic has me filling all of my cravings for food and sweets. It is tough isn’t it?

Here is a recipe I enjoy for healthy Mexican sliders.

1 lb of ground turkey

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/4 tsp black pepper

1tbsp chili powder

1 avocado mashed

8 tomato slices

4 reduced fat pepper jack cheese

Prepare in a medium bowl, mix together turkey, chili powder, garlic powder, and black pepper. Divide your turkey into 8 different portions to make a slider shape into a patty.

Place patty in frying pan. cook well for at least 3 to 5 minutes

Place burger on a bun and top with 2 tsp avocado, 1 tomato slice and 1/2 a cheese slice. OR switch it up and create your own version to suit your taste!

Life is delicious!

ENJOY!

Merry Christmas! 🎄

I wish you a Merry Christmas 🎄 and hope you are enjoying a beautiful day with family ❤️ and friends.

I’m remembering the real reason for the season. And loving the customs and traditions of a Polish Christmas. My mom taught me so much and I cherish everything.

Wesolych Swait ! Merry 🎄 Christmas and many more!

I left my heart in Hong Kong!

IMG_4027.JPG HONG KONG CITY.JPGI’ve been traveling throughout China and fell in LOVE with the one and only Hong Kong. I am back in the US but still on a travel high!  However, jet lag is REAL! I had forgotten how long those international flights feel and how hard it is to get back to reality.

I fly lots. But especially on international flights! It has taken me a week and half already and am now just starting to feel like myself again.

Long flights but so worth every minute and penny!

While I didn’t know what to expect really I was pleasantly surprised. with what I found. Rich in history and so many fascinating places to visit! Hong Kong has so much to explore!

Do you know what HONG Kong means?

Fragrant Harbour or Port. Wherever you go in the city there are different scents. Food being the BEST!

I so loved the people…so friendly, kind and peaceful. The lights, exotic signs, sights, the sounds of the different Chinese dialects being spoken and the scent in the air of the different foods.

I also enjoyed my view of  Kowloon from my Renaissance Hotel  with an amazing harbour view. It was so relaxing to view and to wake up every morning too. This hotel is a MUST if you ever want to or need to go to the city. The hotel is amazing! The staff  speaks English and Chinese and are an extraordinary team of professionals from the bellmen to housekeeping. The hotel has a great quick cafe with American and Chinese delights. The restaurants in the hotel serve Asian and American meals.IMG_3761

I traveled with my usual skin care and my jade and rose quartz roller. Just in case my stomach acts up or complexion isn’t perfection I bring Probiotics with me. My fave is Belle+Bella. I also travel with sheets masks and eye gel pads. And I made sure to drink PLENTY of bottled water. And hot green Asian tea!

I highly recommend and enjoyed the Star Ferry which took us from the Hong Kong side across the harbour to the other side to Kowloon. Only .50 cents in Hong Kong money for a lovely 8 minute ride.

I also adored riding on and the sound of the rail cars they use and the city affectionately calls the DING DING! So cute.IMG_4002.JPG

Shopping in Hong Kong is off the chain fabulous!

FOODIES

The Bakeries were so DELICIOUS and the different sweet breads too.

Chinese egg tarts are a must!

Cool yourself off  with a glass of sugar cane juice.

TEA of all kinds and tea shops are evrywhere. My fave’ is Jasmine tea but also Hong Kong style tea made with milk and sweetened to perfection.

Warm cashew soup anyone?

The most delightful light and creamy soup I have ever had!!! If you love NUTS especially cashews this is a MUST to find and discover the taste on your palette.IMG_3690

I loved this soup so much I had two bowls!

There is also something else you smell in the air. Incense. Sandalwood scented to be exact. They burn it outside thier business doors, homes temples and more. Praising  thier Gods. I do it in the states too but it was so nice to smell it in the air and enjoy it too.IMG_3847

Well I hope you enjoyed the first few days of my trip and all to unfold before me!

Come back I have so much more to share! Have you ever traveled to HK or China?
