Minty Facial Steam

I was looking for a refreshing recipe and felt in the mood for mint. So I went to my personal recipe box for food, beauty and fun. I made a yummy cool Mint Julep drink with fresh mint. I also prepared a fresh facial steam.

Mint Juleps … are so 🍃 refreshing!

I wanted to detox my pores a bit and give them a breather from makeup, pollution and more.

What you will need for this recipe:

1 bunch of fresh peppermint or spearmint leaves

1 gallon bottle of water poured into a pasta pot (pretend you’re making pasta)

1 glass Pyrex like bowl

Bring water to a boil and allow it to cool a bit. Pour this water into a bowl.

Crush up some great mint in your hands to let the aromatics come out.

Place the leaves on top of the water.

Place a tea towel over your head allowing your face to be uncovered.

Keeping a safe distance allow the steam 💦 to reach your face.

You’ll start to notice a bit of moisture to your facial skin and feel like you’ve been “working out”. That’s good!

Your pores are getting a workout, dead skin will slough off a bit and your your skin will love you for it all.

You can enjoy this facial steam once a week. I like to do it for at least 10 mins. until the water cools to lukewarm and your face is glows & dewy.

*

Do not put your pretty face in the steamy water. Just near it and allow the steam to rise and meet your face.

Have you ever tried a recipe like this?

Enjoy!

Night Time IS the Right Time! ⏰

Women I meet in my travels and in my private studio continue to ask me how to get their skin clean. They say they don’t have a clue on what to really do.

I tell them to NEVER go to sleep without washing your face or with the days makeup on (and remove every trace of mascara too) as well as getting a great nights sleep. That is why they call it beauty sleep.

I know that’s not always easy to get when you are sleepless in Seattle. But a good nights sleep is essential nightly as your skin needs it.

You need to make a plan and create a nightly beauty ritual and do it every night.

Do what’s right for you and select a skin care line that is so you. You can mix and match. A soap from one brand and a cream from another. But try and keep a few from the same line if possible so you don’t have an allergic reaction.

Just a few easy steps!

Clean:

You may use a soap bar (not deodorant) liquid soap but cream cleanser at night.

Tone:

Rosewater makes a refreshing toner. Stay away from strong alcohol based ones. Way too drying to the skin.

Nourish and Hydrate:

Choose a moisturizer that is light but at night you can use a richer one. It all depends on how your skin is behaving. Your skin changes as the seasons change and from stress or the weather outdoors. Your moisturizer must change to go with the flow.

Eye care:

A hydrating Eye gel or light eye cream is perfect. A little goes a long way.

And remember don’t scrub or rub your face like you’re washing your car or pots and pans. Be gentle with your delicate skin.

Always treat your neck and décolleté to what you put on your face. Not just your face!

So that’s it as far as a SIMPLE nightly skin ritual.

From the garden to your glass!

I love to make fresh water prettier and taste it too by using awesome herbs and or flowers.

I prepare them in a pitcher, serve it by the glass in old time jars (from an antique mall) or in a gorgeous goblet. Today my recipe is with rosemary, mint and flowers.Organic or home grown is best. I rinse the herbs first and clip what I want to add to the water. It is so fun and refreshing too. I don’t use ice. I use fresh bottled water that is room temperature. I allow the herbs to mesh with the water and infuse it with the aroma and flavor. My fave’s are mint, rosemary, peppermint, fruits, veggies and flowers. If you want to use ice in it once this is infused and prepared of course you can do so.

As for flowers I buy  flowers that are edible and I buy them at Whole Foods Market just for decoration no infusion needed but they do make a lovely addition. Most of the box mix contain marigolds and pansies. So colorful!

And the best part? YOU can actually eat them.

If you’re looking for a fun thing to or to do with your family or sweetie this summer…this is a wonderful thing to do together and tasty too.

PS

I also like to place them in an ice cube tray one flower per cube space and freeze. Pop on in your next drink or add flower cubes to your festive summer punch bowls. So FUN to do and pretty to look at while you sip away. Please note: these flowers are edible. read the box from the store. AND I do not eat the rosemary etc. only the flowers that are edible. Or you can just look at them and enjoy the colorful sight in your glass or pitcher.

SUNBURN!

aloe ice trayOuch!

This Memorial day holiday weekend I saw lot of LOBSTER looking girls, guys and unfortunately kids. Here are some quick skin fixes for sunburn.

Keep an aloe plant in your kitchen. It offers a quick and soothing rescue for your skin. I also like to fill a tray with aloe ver gel and freeze. Take an ice cube and warm in your hand a few seconds, roll gently on the skin where you have a burn or skin irritation.Or you can try Lily of the Desert aloe vera recovery gelly and apply. Both have anti-inflammatory  effects and sooth the skin too.Similasan Burn recovery is also another soothing choice. Found at Whole Foods market.

Alba Botanica Burn relief spray or try a cooling bath in oatmeal flakes. Aura Cacia has an awesome soothing chamomile and oats body soak.Relieves itching, burning feel and the not s pretty skin, peeling and flaking you get after a burn.

Take a cool water bath with fresh edible flowers…drink a glass of water with an edible flower too and enjoy a pretty looking bath too!

Hydrate your skin with cocoa butter, shea butter or any skin softening lotion or cream.

Cold cucumbers grated  and applied in cheesecloth on your face or eye slices are a refreshing and cool skin and eye treat. Did you know your eyes can get sunburned too?

*Stay away from …salt, nut or sugar scrubs at this time. They are too harsh for your red raw skin.

Doctors recommend taking an over the counter pain reliever such as Ibuprophen or Naproxen for pain relief and inflammation.

Taking a vitamin E supplement is a good idea too.Helps to heal skin faster too.

Coconut water is a way you can hydrate from within.Your skin and body are thirsty and dehydrated from the outdoors and the hot sun.

Hope these ideas help you and come to your rescue.

My doctor said I should increase my fish intake by adding more salmon and other fish too.I am cooking up a storm with more salmon, enjoying more fresh sushi and other fatty acid foods but also want to back that up.

I came across this product by NeoCell and as usual had to share it with you.

Fish collagen +HA is a revolutionary youth and beauty enhancing complex that works on the DEEP,structural layer of the skin, called the dermis,to increase the strength, elasticity and hydration.levels of the skin.

Collagen Type 1 provides the vital building blocks needed for increasing the mechanical strength of the skin. Hyaluronic acid hydrates the dermis, which promotes elasticity for wrinkle prevention. These nutrients ALL work together in the dermal layer to keep your skin looking younger. NOW, my husband is hooked too.

NeoCell my go to for supplements to look gorgeous and feel good too!

COOL Summertime Strawberry Soup & more!

strawberry-photo1-mMy Polish side of the family has some delightful recipes this soup is one of them. It is so refreshing in the summertime and while strawberries are in season especially.

What makes it special are these ingredients: (and the Polish FAMILY memories)

1 lb fresh strawberries
1 cup orange juice
1/2 tsp of good quality vanilla extract
2 cups of vanilla Greek yogurt
*whipped cream
*fresh mint leaves

Clean and hull strawberries and place in a blender, combine the rest of the ingredients except whipped cream and mint.Blend until smooth.
CHILL for a few hours or overnight.Serve in pretty bowls and top with dollop of whip cream and garnish with a few mint leaves.

Yummy, creamy and dreamy taste of a recipe from Poland. My mom would be proud I still keep close in my heart and continue these traditions.

Do you have a YUMMY or unique recipe you’d like to share with me?
I’d LOVE to hear from you!

*Yummy photo from the website Cool Photo Projects.

While strawberries are still in season, you might also want to enjoy my recipe for a Refreshing Strawberry Face MASK for your skin.

Here’s what you’ll need:

8 fresh strawberries
2 tablespoons of local honey

Mash the strawberries with a spoon and add in the honey. This will make a fruity honey filled face mask. The strawberries contain Vitamin C and alpha-hydroxy acids that exfoliate the skin gently in a natural way.
If your skin is looking dull, tired, sun damaged or prone to a blemish you will LOVE what this mask does for your skin.

Leave on your face for at least fifteen minutes and rinse with luke warm water and a wash cloth.Follow with your moisturizer and eye gel.
They say that Hollywood Celebrities like Catherine Zeta Jones use strawberries in their beauty rituals.
This fresh mask will last up to a week in an airtight container. I prefer to store in glass NOT plastic container.

*As I have mentioned before always do a spot test on the side of your cheek or neck to see if you are allergic to any of these ingredients. If you know you are do not use this recipe.

Get cooking and enjoy these two delicious delights one for your body and one for your face. YUM!
