What a wonderful day! Celebrating National Lipstick Day!

Those of you who follow my blog  know I am addicted to magazines and all things lips! At any given time I can have up to 6 to 10 lipsticks in my handbag or maybe a gloss and a lip balm too. I never know what girl I feel like each day sometimes throughout the day. That is why I carry a collection of my gal pals with me.

Here is my point of view as a beauty professional and makeup artist on lipstick!

These days there are no rules on what color you should buy.

Today ANYTHING goes. If you feel good in it. Wear it!!!

When choosing lipsticks always remember:

  • The darker the lipstick you choose the smaller your lips will appear.
  • If your lips are fuller choose a medium to deep shade to make them look smaller.
  • To make lips look larger choose a light, medium to shimmery shade.
  • To highlight the lips and give a sexier pout choose a lighter hue with a sparkle, glitter or frost.
  • Don’t forget a lip liner is not a lipstick! If it was it would be called a lipstick. Lip liner gives shape and definition to the lips. If you use it as a lipstick all the time it will make your lips chapped, peel and very dry. Ouch! Not a good look.
  • To make your lipstick last longer apply a Lipstick Base on your lips first.Think of it  like a foundation for your lips.
  •  If you want your lipstick to stay in place try an invisible lip liner.
  •  Don’t try more than  3 or 4 lipstick when shopping. The skin on your lips will reflect that.
  • Try not to test lipstick on the top of your hands. Turn your hand over and test drive them on the fuller part of your palm near your wrist and at your thumb. That section is more like your lips.
  • Next time you go shopping for lipstick and makeup. Buy a hue that you would never buy for you! It just may be your fav’ color yet!

Got a beauty question. Just ask. I’d love to help.

Hope you have a lipstick on!

Got Lipstick?

National Lipstick Day photo 2017Today is National Lipstick day!

I thought a great way to start the day is with a few beauty secrets for your lips! Here are my answers to some commonly asked questions.

“What can I do to save a lipstick that melted slightly in my car or purse?”

All you need to do is gently smoosh (if there is a word) it together with your fingers and freeze them overnight. This will make them harden and you may have to use a lip brush to use it but at least you can still use it.Handle with care and you will still have at quite a few more wearings.

“I heard you create lipsticks and lipstain is your specialty!”

Yes, I created the first Lipstain years ago. I love the look of a China doll with that flawless skin and rosy pink lips. I also wanted my lipstick to stay on longer.I sought out beauty laboratories to have a chemist make my request. It wasn’t easy. After many testings, samples, swipe and hard work. We finally nailed it. Brides requested a longer lasting rosy lipstick. Bridal magazines started to notice and my Lipstain collection soared. I love the lips and they are my favorite part of the face to makeup on a woman.

So, lipstick and gloss line had to happen!!!

“My lipstick changes color no matter what color or brand I use. What can I do?”

Give Perfect Day Lip Base a whirl. It is like foundation for your lips and is made just for the lips. One coat underneath any lipstick makes your lip color stay on better, remain true and helps keep it from feathering outside the lines too. Typically, it is your body chemistry that makes a color change happen. I know it can be frustrating but you can manage it.

You got this girl!

My lipstick or lip-gloss runs down and off my lips. HELP!

You can use a basic pigmented lip liner but another suggestion I have is to use a clear lip pencil.

Yes, this transparent lip liner works wonders on the lips and locks in color!

This lip liner pencil is used just like you use a pigmented one. It’s like magic.

“My fave lipsticks been discontinued, some broke and some melted in my car! What can I do?”

A travel or beside pill box will work or a Lip Motel to the rescue!

There are several slots usually in the pill container and you can fill them all with your melted, tired and poor bits of lip beauty. Or you can use this one. Mix and matching has never so much fun.

A Lipstick Motel is a long empty compact with mini compartments will hold your lipsticks or lip balms. Simply scoop your leftover lip products with the mini spatula into the empty spaces and save them to mix and match shades and enjoy. Eco chic and fabulous. Be your own makeup artist and use the cool stuff we use too. Both of these are a  makeup artist’s and model secret!

  • Dehydrated lips need some LOVE…here is my recipe for kissable softer lips!

Sugar Me Up Lip Scrub

I love a natural approach to beauty. So, naturally I love to make my own sometime.

What you will need:

1 teaspoon of white granulated sugar

1 teaspoon of Organic coconut oil (I LOVE the Whole Foods Everyday 365 Value brand)

*1 teaspoon of agave nectar

Stir the above up and enjoy as a lip exfoliating treatment weekly.

FYI

Sometimes certain medications will dry out your lips. Not drinking enough water can dry your lips out too. Even the brand of  your lipsticks can dry out your lips!

Step 1. Next, stir and place the ingredients above into a small plastic jar or mini empty jam jar.

Step 2. Apply with your finger or a mini firm brush on clean naked lips. Leave on at least 5 minutes. Rub back and forth with your finger.

Step 3. Rinse off with luke warm water and a washcloth. It will last a couple of weeks in a closed container.

I like to put mine in the refrigerator. The coconut oil softens the skin on your lips and the brown sugar gently exfoliates. Adding honey if you are not allergic to it will aid in softer luscious hydrated lips.

Your lips will LOVE you back and your LIPSTICK and or gloss will glide on like butter!

If this recipe is too much of a fuss for you swipe on one of these…

I always kiss my lips goodnight with one of these lip treats! If you want to be kissable you need this!

Tealicious a green tea lip conditioner  in a lipstick tube.If you love anything green tea you will love this lip treatment!!!

OR a TLC vitamin E lip balm…I used to use a vitamin E  vitamin pill, take a pin and make a tiny hole and squirt around on the lip area to soften lips and and any lines around the lips.

But no more!  I recommend you give a try to TLC vitamin E in a lipstick tube.

I keep them at my bedside. My husband uses them too. Not just at bedtime they can also be used at the beach, riding your bike or running errands.

Gotta question? Just ask I am here to help!

And remember my mantra and slogan…

“ A woman without lipstick is like a day without sunshine”.

Sugar Me up!

photo SUGAR ME UP.JPGTis’ the season for sugar and  all the tempting sweets that come with it!

It is also the time of the year to kiss lots and the weather can give us the driest lips!

I like to make and use this D.I.Y. when I ma ready to KISS under the mistletoe and my lips get dry from rapid change in the weather  or times your lips simply need a moisturizing plumping boost.

My recipe is simple~

1 Teaspoon of honey (organic is my fav’)

1 Teaspoon of brown sugar (organic is my fav’)

Stir the two together for a lip softening treatment at home! Apply to clean lips and rub back and forth with your ring finger. Leave on at least 3 minutes and repeat rubbing process again.

Rinse with warm water on a wash cloth or flat round cotton pad.

Apply your fav’ lip balm afterwards.

Kiss the night away and ring in the new year with soft lips!
