Nail it! DIY

Nail care and self care have never been more important. Looking good feels good and guys want to look their best too. Manicures and pedicures are not just for the ladies. Today on TV on River City Live I am featuring a few segments to do this with ease at home. I still think to get a manicure and pedicure at the spa or salon feels and is amazing. I go with my husband monthly! He actually loves it too.

Here are my tips and tricks to giving yourself a Mani & Pedi at home.

One of the main things you need to consider is setting aside time JUST FOR YOU! Don’t rush. For a manicure you will need at least 15-20 minutes for a pedicure at least 30 minutes.

If you have never had a manicure and pedicure add it to your Bucket List of Beauty or make it your monthly beauty routine. YOU owe it to yourself and your body.

Here are some basic supplies you will need:

1 bottle of Cuticle oil

1 tube of cuticle remover PEN -removes dead skin and hydrates

1 bottle of nail polish remover to start fresh- I like one called  The Stripper

Photo by Linda Prebreza on Pexels.com

1 tube or jar of hand and or body lotion and a foot cream

1 clear your favorite nail polish

1  High & Dry Quick-Drying Top Coat 9 it with UVA/ UVB protection

1 emery board

1 cuticle pusher stick

*Optional- a pair of clean nippers  or nail clippers

*Optional- pedicure slippers or flip flops

Here are two methods one for a quick hand and nail fix I like to do and below that is a longer more thorough way to do a nail treatment at home.

If you are REALLY short on time and want a quick manicure fix…You gotta try the new beauty sensation Bonblissity. Like a K Beauty sheet mask does for your face this little gem candy scrub will freshen and soften up those nails, nail beds and hands. INSTANT gratification.

Simply place a candy scrub wrapped in eco-friendly great for the planet way and place the scrub in the palm of your hands.

Run the water or dip your hands into a bowl of luke warm water and get your hands and the cube wet.

Rub gently paying attention to the entire nail area and on the skin on your  hands…tops and bottoms. Leave scrub on and rub some more. It is kissing your dead skin away.

Rinse well and enjoy prettier or more handsome hands in a minute!

I interviewed the hot brand used on the red carpet celebrities, Fashion Week and coveted by the girl next door. I love to support woman business owners and fellow professionals in my beauty industry. So, celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippmann was who I needed to reach out to. This brand is an Allure magazine Best in Beauty Award winner. Not easy to win. So easy to fall in love with this nail polish brand because it is Earth week even more this brand is a healthier gel alternative. Vegan polish that glides on like a pat of warm butter on toast. To keep you safe you need to look for a polish that does not contain the 10 bad for you ingredients and only use the good.

Go visit YouTube or her website for her ‘How to Give Yourself the perfect Manicure at HOME Tutorial”  www.deborahlippmann.com

For a PEDICURE at Home you will need the above as well. If you do not want to use a color nail polish that is perfectly fine. Or you might consider using a clear polish instead.

 EASY STEPS By Deborah Lippmann

1. Cleanse & Prep the nails and remove all polish if you had any on.

2.Exfoliate & Shape the nails of your hands and feet. Clip if necessary.

3.Perfect the cuticles and nourish with cuticle cream to follow.

4. Apply a BASE COAT. She says it will make you manicure last LONGER.

5.Add a nail polish he if you’d like a dash of color.

6.Apply a TOP COAT to protect your color choice.

7.Apply hand or foot cream, like Rich Girl hydrating hand cream  with hyaluronic acid and Steppin’ Out foot cream on your feet.

Life!

Trying to hang in there? I am too.

These days into months have not been easy for us. I’ve been keeping busy with my work and lost in our pandemic life. (Sorry I have not posted a blog lately.)

But we’ve got to keep moving, keep going, keep working, keep dreaming and keep taking care of each other and our families.

And above all continue to take care of ourselves even if it is doing it ourselves until we can see a PRO and visit the spa or salon again. I have been able to see my stylist for my haircuts unlike many of you across the country and globe. Wonderful!

Nothing like a fresh haircut and someone else shampooing your hair.

Am I right?

Essie’s Spring Collection Is the Ultimate Pastel Pick-Me-Up — StyleCaster

Since we all need an a visual pick me up…here are some new nail polish hues to swoon over. I knew the pastel hues would be on trend. Just knew it. Just like I felt the blue shade of the year released by Pantone.

Can you guess what is my favorite?

It’s looking like now we’re going to be in quarantine, washing our hands and staying six feet away from others, for…a while. While there are way more important things than our nails, it’s nice to keep them up and keep ourselves busy. Essie’s nail polish collection for Spring 2020 features gorgeous pastel hues that will…

Oscar Beauty Rituals

The Oscars! Did you watch this year?

Who swept you off your pretty feet at the Oscars?

I did watch as I am all about the celebrities makeup, skin and hair. In fact am featuring beauty tips from my blog today on TV on River City Live on WJXT 4 in sunny Florida.

I enjoyed the sea of COLOR metallics and all shades pink! From the Crazy Rich Asian Stars to the mirrored masterpiece on the ever glowing JLo. And of course the lipstick red dress Jennifer Hudson wore and the basic black from Lady Gaga. Now always keep it real…and remember they DON’T wake up that way. It takes months of prep for both their face, body and all that bling and fashion!

  • It is all about the diet and pre- Oscar prep to look good in those gowns and tuxedo’s. Celebrities are all about green juicing, exercise, yoga, massage and beauty supplements. As you know beauty starts from the inside and shows on the outside. Some celebrities even admit they starve themselves (not compleley but really skimp or fast) to look good in those lovely gowns, dresses and pant suits.
  • Skin  Treatments -What are there go to’s for pretty and healthy looking skin? A DEEP cleansing facial is at the top of the list gold, diamonds and gem stones. Cryotherapy is the cool anti-aging sensation that is coveted lately too.Jade and rose quartz roller and light therapy are still having a moment too. Some celebrities use quickie sheet masks for eyes, face and lips! MALE celebrities do facials, sheet masks and other treatmensts at the spa too!
  • Mani’s and Pedi’s with  statement nail or a simple manicure by a celeb and editorial nail specialist.
  •  Body treatments like wraps, cellulite treatments and tan from a spray tan specialist and covered to highlight the skin with some Gleam by Melanie Mills!
  • It’s all about the sage & crystals! I am told some celebrities have rituals for good luck and some include a treasured gemstone and burning sage.
  • Beauty sleep and WATER are most skin care heroes for celebrities.
  • Red lipstick is the classic choice. But as of late the shiny lipgloss and metallic has entered the lip picture. This year PINK had it’s moment. Beleive it or not pink is everything when it comes to a lipstick hue. It really is magic and looks good on everyone.
  • Blotting papers or blotting powder papers are a MUST for that unexpected emotional shine!
  • Eye makeup was simple and classic. The smoky really dark eye is not a popular otpion. Understated and a touch of shimmer opend up the eyes and mesmerize.
  • Let’s take a peek in their evening bags! It is ALL about the pretty clutch and a lipstick and maybe a mint. Some celeb’s don’t even carry money on them.
  • Got your own beauty and skin care question? Just ask me!

Schools Out! What can you do with…

Barbie…Your daughter or granddaughters?

Summer is still here and your daughters and grand daughters are still out of school.

Here are a few fun things to do with them this summer!

Today I shared on TV what you can do and how much fun it can be!

  • Bonding time:Do a little makeup at home day. Show them how to apply a little lipstick or gloss,a blush, nail polish and or a bit of glitter. A little goes a long way.
  • Show them how to take care of their hair or braid the hair …Barbie Hair conditioner for detangling works wonders!
  • Teach them that SUNSCREEN is a best kept beauty secret! Protecting their face and body from the sun is very important.Use dolls as demo’s.
  • Enjoy making or serving yummy refreshments like fruit infused water, pretty pink lemonade, candy,Pez and or yummy  pink cupcakes.Make it like a beauty party!
  • Another fun idea is:To show them how they can write a story book and they are the main character. All they need is an empty unlined notebook and some markers  or crayons. Encourage them to be creative.
  • Princess Patch Parties is  a local company if you’re lucky enough to live in Jacksonville Florida in the Murray Hill section of town that offers birthday and mini spa parties with facials and a little mani & pedi outing. Pink and frilly place where glitter rules! www.princesspatchgirlsspa.com
  • Lip gloss D.I.Y. with you and or their friends with a MINI bar of Hershey’s chocolate or some crushed up candy mixed with a  dash of OrganIc coconut oil from Whole Foods Market. You will need to assist children with this in the microwave for a few minutes. What you’ll have is a shiny, lip softening lip gloss. No it won’t last you’ll watch them lick it off and laugh the afternoon away.
  • I will share these ideas and more on the video from the segment. JUST A CLICK AWAY! http://www.firstcoastnews.com on The Chat
  •  ENJOY watching and hope you will try some of my outside the box ideas!

Pretty Pedi at Home!

Low on cash and want to refresh your feet and last months pedicure?

  • Soak your cares away with Epsom salt and Peppermint essential oil or fresh peppermint or mint leaves from your garden in a warm water foot bath. It is very soothing and cools the skin especially after a long hot day!
  • Soaking your feet for 15 minutes with Epsom salts also refreshes the soles and take down any swelling of the ankles and feet.
  • Clean well around your nails and toes with a nail brush, orange wood stick and file any rough nail edges.
  • When done apply a hydrating salve or lotion like Smith’s RoseBud Salve. It is fabulous for your feet, heels, cuticles, lips, brows and unwanted hair around your hairline. Celebrities and models love this product.
  • Skip the nail polish if you’d like or apply a fabulous color. It is fine to give your nails a vacay from polish.
  • Your feet and skin will look and feel amazing. photo flip flops

Beauty,Beauty and more beauty in the Big Apple!

photo DeltaA week ago I escaped the blizzard and traveled to NYC for work and play. I was bound and determined not to let the cold weather get in my way.I arrived safe by Delta Airlines and landed almost an hour sooner than scheduled. The sun was shining gloriously and the weather was awesome in the 60’s. I checked in to my first hotel and quickly had attend to refresh and go to two planned beauty events. I  discovered new beauty products to show on my beauty and lifestyle segment on NBC12- TV. I also love to see what I would like to enjoy and add to my own beauty routine. My first stop was at a loft terrace in a sun-drenched  huge room. I sipped champagne, noshed on yummy treats and explored what’s hot a new.The best part besides the awesome products I saw. They served up COTTON CANDY fresh from an old time machine! How cool was that! I love cotton candy in its soft rainbow fluffy hues of sweetness.More to come in another post on the products I enjoyed and fell in love with.

Next stop I hustled in a cab to the event of the year. It happens once a year. NYC beauty editors, cosmetics executives and anyone who is anyone in beauty attend the Cosmetic Exec Women event. We sniff, touch, smell, play and test drive NEW beauty launches from the past 12 months. After we do this we vote after testing some more brands at home. There are many categories. Makeup,Hair,Skin,Nails,Fragrance,Male Grooming,Beauty Tools nail polish and so much more.It is a exciting packed party of wall to wall women. Each year is different. This year QVC was offering makeup applications and even gave us a cosmetic bag.Hair was being styled and more. And did I mention they had cupcakes and cocktails?

After the tabulations are all in brands receive an Academy award of beauty no not a gold statue but winning  is the most coveted accolade you want by a beauty brand. My swag weighed in at 12 lbs.Two fast and furious hours of a really packed pavilion.

The next day while the weather was still in the 60’s I had a few business meetings but made time to go downtown for Chinese Brunch called DIM SUM at one of my fav’ places in Chinatown section of NYC. The Joy Luck Palace. I was seated with two women and two of their nurses who took them o the city for an outing. They were from Hong Kong and 95 and 99 years young. So fun to watch the friendship between the two ladies. The older one was a fashionista dripping in jade jewelry. The two ladies did not speak English but I understood the language of their smiles, facial expressions, laughter and appearance.Women push carts filled with hot Chinese food from soup to dumplings to chicken feet.

My fave’ Dim Sum was 3  little piggies sitting in the bamboo steamer looking at me! They were meant for the end of the meal. A warm fluffy dough filled with a creme brulle kind of cream and it also reminded me of the yummiest vanilla pudding. The Chef’s  here make the best tiny bites of love.If you have never tried or enjoyed dim sum you must find a place to dine in your travels.

Did I mention I got caught in the first flurry of snow and slush and had not packed any boots? MY husband told me I wouldn’t need them.Note to self…never not pack your boots with all your other needed winter gear.

Window shopping is the best shopping! I window shopped all the hot stores like Bloomingdales,Macy’s and Bendel’s and more. I used to live here and really miss having this city at my feet on a daily basis. But I also shopped the fashion district too and discovered some amazing fabrics. So inspiring.Even stopping by candy stores and food stands gives me yummy inspiration since I so love candy and beauty too.

I took some time for at my fav’ places for a mani, pedi and facial too.And I discovered some more places to shop and play for K beauty too.

Oh and I went to the International Beauty Show and guest spoke at the International Esthetics,Cosmetics and Spa show. The show floor was filled with the latest and greatest in the world of beauty. Then came the SNOW.Thank goodness I was already booked on a flight the day before the storm.

Off on another beauty trip soon.Gotta unpack to pack.Stay tuned for more on my beauty adventures.

Back to always fabulous Las Vegas!

I LOVE to work and play in Las Vegas!

Back again last weekend for the International Esthetics Cosmetics and Spa Conference as well as the International Beauty Show.  Two fabulous shows one for beauty industry professionals like makeup artists, skin care professionals ,spas and plastic surgery clinics. The other IBS is loved by hairstylists, nail techs and makeup artists.LV SIGN photo

So good to connect with businesses, explore the show floor and lecture. My two topics were “What a Bride Wants” and “Model and Fashion Week Beauty Secrets.”

Someday soon I will post them and will share them ALL with you too!

They had a cool down in the weather instead of the 122 degrees they’ve been having… it was only 112 degrees.Lol…it was tough! I played on the LV strip, I got a mani & pedi, shoulder & back massage, got a deep cleansing facial and foot spa experience all on the show floor. I sampled, touched, sniffed, rubbed and tested many of the new products in beauty.

I shopped till I really dropped…lots of  work and YET so much fun!

Gotta get caught up and rest up and reboot my body. It is exhausting and travel today is even more so. I had two flight issues one with airplane problems and one with delays that were weather related.Happy to leave and enjoyed all that LV had to offer and happy to get back to my husband and to chill.
