Rescue that winter skin!

I am in Chicago and suffering from winter skin. My skin is usually combination and on the oily side but NOT here this time of year… it is so parched! Thirsty for attention.

The winter season has taken a toll on our skin. Dry,flaky and at times sand paper like skin. Winter weather accents our lines under our eyes and on our skin more. My hair to my toes needs a rescue!

How about yours?

First you need to remember is DON’T over wash your face OR SCRUB. You will only do it harm and deplete any natural oils that you have that make your skin glow. If you do it will be tight and dry and your makeup will NOT glide on like butter on warm toast. BE GENTLE.

Next tip move into a cream cleanser or gentle NON-deodorant soap bar like DOVE or goat milk soap. They are so much kinder to your skin.

Rosewater makes and amazing skin refresher and won’t dry out your skin. I like to apply it on a flat cotton pad but I also love to carry a mini spray bottle filled with it and carry it in my purse to spritz throughout the day for a PICK ME UP.

You can make your own rosewater with a D.I.Y. but I love to keep it simple on this one and buy a bottle of it. Did I mention the soft scent of rosewater is so calming to your mood and soothing to the skin.

Next tip is to try something called SLUGGING where you apply on clean skin a coat of Vaseline all over your face. Leave it on as long as you’d like but I prefer 15 minutes tops for myself. It will REALLY soften those dead skin cells and make your tight and dry skin happy again. Rinse with a warm washcloth and follow up with a dash of a soap like mentioned above. I like to remove any oily residue.

IF the thought of slugging turns you off…

NOT TO WORRY you can accomplish this with a rich jar of face cream.

Another tip I like to do is apply a Gel or Paper SHEET mask. Oh my what a high I get from these masks. So luxe and soothing to the skin. They started in Korea and finally have made it to the USA now American cosmetic brands are copying these formulas and making them too. I use them around the eyes,on the hands,on the feet,on the hair. THEY truly are magic.

Of course drinking water or coconut water is yet another way to help your body and skin look and feel its best!

These tips should help you and your skin too for a quick rescue! Spring will be here before you know it.

BANANA Photo

I love bananas and the more unattractive the better!
Just like people …please don’t judge a book or banana by it’s cover. You never know what you will find.

I love to snack on them!
Whip up fresh muffins with these mushy flavorful delights.
Rub elbows and knees with them.
Make hydrating hair masks with bananas!

Here is a skin moisturizing face mask for YOU try this fall. It is fresh, fast and easy to make!
My southern hunk husband loves it too!

I’m Bananas D.I.Y. Face mask

1 tablespoon of honey
1 over ripe banana
1 ripe avocado

*Add a dash of lemon juice so the avocados don’t turn. But it is not necessary.
Mash all of the above and give your skin some LOVE!

Apply it to your face and neck. Skip the eye area but you can apply mask to the lips.

Honey makes it all stick together and helps hold in moisture. The beautiful banana can both hydrate and gently tighten the skin.
Avocados are rich in goodness and hydrating bliss.

Got any left over??? EAT it.

I love to cook, play in my kitchen and do makeup.

Day 5 to more beautiful skin!

Hands looking older, dry and are your cuticles looking unkept? Now is the time to book and appointment for a paraffin dip and skinny dip with your hands. Paraffin treatments at salons or spas are mini hydrating vacations for your skin.

It takes about ten minutes total and will refresh your skin and moisturize it too. Follow up with a decadent hand and body lotion or cream. Take care of your hands they say so much without your saying a word.

Cozy concoction for dry skin

Shea Butter is all the rage and is a very old beauty elixir. After a long day of work and no flip flop weather here in sunny Florida it is in the 30’s !

My skin is so dry and I am in the mood to whip up a salve for my skin and lips. I took a large scoop of shea butter out of a tub that I have and placed it in a bowl. I then took a pestle and mortar and started to stir the shea. I squeezed in some honey from the bear bottle to add a sweet moisturizing delight to the mix. BOTH moisturize and honey is an antibacterial. After you have the amount you want I placed this mix into the microwave and cooked on low 60 seconds. (depending on your microwave may be warm it more)

Stir this creamy butter, sit down and drap the area  where you will apply this with a small towel so you don’t stain sheets or carpeting. Rub in as it warms into your skin and enjoy the kisses of moisture on your skin. I love to use this on my elbows, knees and feet. I also love to put on white loose and cozy soft socks afterwards and go to sleep.

Wake up to softer skin… Guys and Gals~ Got a bit leftover on your finger? Apply some to your lips~

*Of course do not try this recipe if you are allergic to any of these ingredients.
