Nail it! DIY

Nail care and self care have never been more important. Looking good feels good and guys want to look their best too. Manicures and pedicures are not just for the ladies. Today on TV on River City Live I am featuring a few segments to do this with ease at home. I still think to get a manicure and pedicure at the spa or salon feels and is amazing. I go with my husband monthly! He actually loves it too.

Here are my tips and tricks to giving yourself a Mani & Pedi at home.

One of the main things you need to consider is setting aside time JUST FOR YOU! Don’t rush. For a manicure you will need at least 15-20 minutes for a pedicure at least 30 minutes.

If you have never had a manicure and pedicure add it to your Bucket List of Beauty or make it your monthly beauty routine. YOU owe it to yourself and your body.

Here are some basic supplies you will need:

1 bottle of Cuticle oil

1 tube of cuticle remover PEN -removes dead skin and hydrates

1 bottle of nail polish remover to start fresh- I like one called  The Stripper

Photo by Linda Prebreza on Pexels.com

1 tube or jar of hand and or body lotion and a foot cream

1 clear your favorite nail polish

1  High & Dry Quick-Drying Top Coat 9 it with UVA/ UVB protection

1 emery board

1 cuticle pusher stick

*Optional- a pair of clean nippers  or nail clippers

*Optional- pedicure slippers or flip flops

Here are two methods one for a quick hand and nail fix I like to do and below that is a longer more thorough way to do a nail treatment at home.

If you are REALLY short on time and want a quick manicure fix…You gotta try the new beauty sensation Bonblissity. Like a K Beauty sheet mask does for your face this little gem candy scrub will freshen and soften up those nails, nail beds and hands. INSTANT gratification.

Simply place a candy scrub wrapped in eco-friendly great for the planet way and place the scrub in the palm of your hands.

Run the water or dip your hands into a bowl of luke warm water and get your hands and the cube wet.

Rub gently paying attention to the entire nail area and on the skin on your  hands…tops and bottoms. Leave scrub on and rub some more. It is kissing your dead skin away.

Rinse well and enjoy prettier or more handsome hands in a minute!

I interviewed the hot brand used on the red carpet celebrities, Fashion Week and coveted by the girl next door. I love to support woman business owners and fellow professionals in my beauty industry. So, celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippmann was who I needed to reach out to. This brand is an Allure magazine Best in Beauty Award winner. Not easy to win. So easy to fall in love with this nail polish brand because it is Earth week even more this brand is a healthier gel alternative. Vegan polish that glides on like a pat of warm butter on toast. To keep you safe you need to look for a polish that does not contain the 10 bad for you ingredients and only use the good.

Go visit YouTube or her website for her ‘How to Give Yourself the perfect Manicure at HOME Tutorial”  www.deborahlippmann.com

For a PEDICURE at Home you will need the above as well. If you do not want to use a color nail polish that is perfectly fine. Or you might consider using a clear polish instead.

 EASY STEPS By Deborah Lippmann

1. Cleanse & Prep the nails and remove all polish if you had any on.

2.Exfoliate & Shape the nails of your hands and feet. Clip if necessary.

3.Perfect the cuticles and nourish with cuticle cream to follow.

4. Apply a BASE COAT. She says it will make you manicure last LONGER.

5.Add a nail polish he if you’d like a dash of color.

6.Apply a TOP COAT to protect your color choice.

7.Apply hand or foot cream, like Rich Girl hydrating hand cream  with hyaluronic acid and Steppin’ Out foot cream on your feet.

Deborah Lippmann ALSO shares her tips on HOW-To polish like a PRO. Worth a look on YouTube.

Whipping up some beauty!

DIY Recipe for your hair:

Have fun in the kitchen and whip up some face and body care. I featured these recipes on TV 📺 yesterday on River City Live on http://www.News4Jax.com

Check out the video clip.

FYI

If you are allergic to any other the ingredients below. Please skip that ingredient. If you have very sensitive skin do a patch test on your inner wrist.

I have super sensitive skin. I do not have any problems with any of these delightful DIY treats. 😍

Coconut 🥥 milk by the can is so softening and gives you a healthier sheen. Use it before you shampoo and then pour a cup on your ends and rub a comb through your hair. Leave on at least 15 minutes.

Women from exotic countries love this hair trick!

Canned Coconut milk or coconut oil both work!

Hi 🍯 Honey! Face Mask Recipe

Local honey makes a skin softening and soothing face mask for women or men. Yes, it’s a bit messy and you might want to eat it and lick 😋 the leftovers. but it is a quick wonderful mask. Apply on clean face and leave on at least 10 minutes. I also like to do this mask on my neck.

A little honey goes a long way!

Rice 🍚 Water Face Mask for uneven skin tone

Raw White rice for your skin? Yes, please!
Oats for your bath? Why not?

Milk & Oat Bath Body Recipe

Fill a bathtub with warm water. Place a sachet (muslin or organza bag both work)

Filled with a cup or two of raw oats and some powdered milk.

* You can substitute the powdered milk for a small bottle of water.

Soak your cares away, dry skin and itchy skin away! Soak in the bath until the water 💦 cools. Your skin will feel amazing.

Nail & Cuticle Hand Bath

All you need is some olive 🫒 oil, avocado 🥑 oil or other favorite oil. I like to soak my hands in this oil bath. Do this for at least 10 minutes.

* Rub the extra oil on your toe nails and feet.

Instant mani & pedi fix !

End these spa like treats from your kitchen with a martini 🍸 or a glass of bubbly Prosecco or champagne 🍾

My husband likes to join in on the pampering self care fun too!

I ❤️ this nail lacquer!

My summer beauty crush is a nail polish. I love getting a mani & pedi and enjoy touching my nails 💅 up between my manicure appointments so I can look my best.

While shopping 🛍 to pick up some milk and and a few other things I discovered of all places in The Dollar General an end cap display of nail lacquer. A few colors caught my eye.

I can’t wait to buy MORE!

They have 18 show stopping colors!

Twisted 🌷 Tulip nail lacquer!

Maybe I needed a frost, no I needed a matte. So I chose Twisted 🌷 Tulip! Perhaps like my personality. It is Maybelline FAST gel nail lacquer. Yes, Maybelline every teen on a budgets dream.

It went on my nails smooth and looked flawless instantly. Best part besides this beautiful hue. It is so FAST drying! I am in love! And I almost forgot I’ve had two coats on for a week. Not a dent or chip. Color is shiny and still looks amazing.

And by the way, for years I have been able to only use OPI nail polish because I am allergic to other nail lacquers.

No your nail bed doesn’t break out nor do you necessarily get a rash. Your eye 👁 lids and under eyes can get itchy and irritated. And can even get raw red from scratching or rubbing.

Did you even know you can be allergic from the ingredients in some brand nail polish?

It’s not over. There’s still more summer left! Maybe it’s time you discover and try a few and play away!

You’ll most likely fall in love with it too!

Like the brands tube goes… Maybe It’s Maybelline!

Kisses 💋 from Las Vegas!

I’m in beautiful and always fabulous Vegas! The heat is on. The other day it was 116 degrees.

Have you ever been?

Today I guest spoke at the International Esthetics Cosmetics and Spa Conference show. I had a sold out crowd! I so LOVE what I do!

💋

Anyone who is anyone in beauty and hair is here! It is so exciting. I have missed guest speaking since Covid. But it’s beginning to look like a sense of normalcy and happiness!

The show floor was filled to the brim with so many booths. I attended a few classes and shopped and explored. I’m exhausted.

Tonight we had dinner at a delicious place called Orchids Gardens. They serve all kinds of Dim Sum 🥟 all day. I have been going to this place for years.

I’m taking notes 📝 and checking out all that I can and that is trending!

So please … Stay tuned. The time zone for me is a 3 hour difference and I’m starting to fade. Im going to take a bubble bath 🛀 and relax.

Then, I’m joining my husband for a cocktail 🍸 and eating a box of chocolates together in bed.

Sweet Dreams!

Happy National Nail Polish day!

How was your day?

I treated myself to an OPI nail polish today. Strawberry 🍓 Margarita to be exact. A pretty dreamy pink with maybe a tease of coral.

I was looking for my all time summer favorite Kyoto Pearl! But could not find it. If you do… it looks amazing with a tan (sunless) and is such a great neutral shimmery white silver hue.

I also treated myself to a Strawberry 🍓 Margarita. It was so HOT in Florida today!

Tell me what’s your favorite brand and color nail polishes? I’d like to know. And stay tuned as I will be posting some nail tips you’ll enjoy in a future post.

I love hearing from you.

Counting down to… Las Vegas again!

Last year the shows got cancelled.

PRO only shows…
Stylists, makeup artists, nail techs, estheticians and beauty business owners from all over the world will flock to the ever popular International Beauty Show and the International Esthetics Cosmetics & Spa Conference.

They have a mood and vibe all of their own and have seen some unique hair and makeup Pro’s. Some of them wear just as much makeup as you and I do and their men! If I bump into any you need to know about.

I’ll Instagram and blog out photo’s and comments to you. So follow me there too!

Day 6 of MY Beauty Secrets

Nails get dry & dehydrated too!

Nourish the cuticles and nails with a nail oil nightly. I even use it on my toes before I go to sleep at night. If you don’t have a store bought one go to your kitchen. I have used sunflower oil, olive oil and even coconut oil.

Rub it in and all around your nails too.

I keep a squeeze bottle of it at my bedside.

Your hands and toes will be instantly refreshed and glowing.

Got extra oil on your hands?

Run the remains in your hair and comb with your fingers and hydrate it a bit too.

Secrets From a … Nail Artist You Need!

I recently had a chance to chat with a nail artist. In my interview I asked her what are her Top 5 Tips for the Nails.

With all the hand washing we are doing and it all taking a toll on our cuticles and finger nails I know you will enjoy her fabulous tips for healthy nails! Hope you put her trade secrets and personal fav’s to work this long holiday weekend.

Or book and appointment with Nina! Her number is 904-234-7161 if you’re lucky enough to live local in Jacksonville Fl. 🌴

Here are her tips and is one of her latest nail creations. So fun! So pretty.

  1. Hydrate- keeping the cuticle area hydrated with a cuticle oil. I prefer my own brand Cula, which consist of vitamin E, jojoba oil, and an essential oil.
  2. Taking vitamins– taking vitamins working from the inside out helps promote healthy nail growth. Vitamins B is best.
  3. Nail growth– Using a nail protein such as Nailtiques protein 2 plus helps train those nails from broken & brittle to healthy strong nails. I recommend polishing every other day for two weeks and evaluating your nail growth from there.
  4. Manicures– keeping the nail plate clean and getting rid of old dead skin cells helps promote nail growth.
  5. Nail tech– choosing the right nail tech that is knowledgeable and knows what there doing to help you take care of your nails.

Did you know the first nail polish originated in China as early as 3000 BC !

Cooties!

Germs 🦠 are all around us and our precious little ones are at risk now even more.

So, where do cooties come from? Where does that word come from?

person holding red and black toy car

I once read an article the word cootie comes from the Malaysian word ‘kutu”meaning lice. The word was first recorded when an American general in wartime used the word cooties as an all -encompassing word in a letter referring to the different bugs and lice he encountered in the trenches of battle. No one is quite sure how the word cootie has  made its way to schools and the playground.

The other day I was on a Zoom call with a relative and noticed how her children played in the background with such wonder and passion. Trying to discover the next thing they could on the floor. I also noticed MANY things going into their mouths!!! All to happy to explore. I then thought on how much the unit I told you about called SterileLight Illumicide disinfecting case that I use in my beauty business to clean my makeup and skincare, disinfect my makeup brushes and more can be used with babies and in children’s rooms and things. I knew it was great for baby bottles and teething rings but looking around even more at these nine month old babies and another 2 year old what a necessity it could be.

The COVID-19 pandemic is making us think  beyond  just washing our hands to the entire tune of Happy Birthday to keep our hands clean. Children and our homes and home offices need to be protected and so do all our belongings and things.

Here’s a list of a few things I thought you can disinfect too and in just a few minutes:

Baby bottles

Sippy cups

Kitchen utensils

Food Bowls and plates

Teething rings

Hair brushes and combs

Nail clippers etc.

Baby Toys

Children’s toys

Story books both made of paper and plastic

Small baby blankets

Small plush toys

Clothing

And I am sure you can dream up and think of a whole lot of more things you’d like to disinfect. As I mentioned before when you discover something that you love and you know others would too. YOU simply have to share. So one day do yourself and your family a favor and learn what SterileLight can do for you, your entire family and your entire home too. I don’t work for the company I am simply thrilled about this new technology and what it does. It disinfects and sanitizes using a germicidal and bacteria killing light.

Keeping ourselves and our family healthy and out of harms way…is our priority.

Pandemic Beauty Relief!

If you are looking for a little BEAUTY and skincare relief  you are in luck. Today on TV in sunny Florida on WJXT-4  I shared a few ways you can do this. You’ll feel so much better too!

Is your skin extra oily, lifeless and a few zits got you down?

Got to a drug store and buy a sheet mask. It is a mask that is in a sheet form and goes over your face. They are filled with skin loving goodness and will make your skin look amazing. Instant gratification.

A charcoal or detox mask is black and will help control sebum which comes especially when we are under stress. Buy one of these if your skin is oily or shiny.

Please Note …they also come in a jar and you can apply it with your hands. Let it dry and rinse well. Your face will love you!

photo of woman applying clay mask on her face

If your skin is dry or you have normal to combination skin you need a hydrating sheet mask. These masks just cost a few dollars and work wonders.

Moisturized skin is HAPPY skin!

Don’t forget to moisturize your skin. Not just some days but every day. Face covers we have begun to wear are drying to our skin and lips! So PROTECT both your face and lips.

Lips 👄 NEED love too.

Use a Vitamin E lipstick or balm and kiss your lips morning and night with it. It’s clear and mighty and you can go to sleep 😴 with it on!

If you’re going CRAZY for a haircut (like ME) DON’T cut your hair or over pluck or shave your brows…WAIT to see the professionals. That’s why we go to them they are the PROfessionals and we can make your hair, skin, nails, lashes and face look fabulous AGAIN.

Instead condition your hair with a hair treatment mask. Great for dehydrated stressed hair.

Finger nails looking rough? Nails cracking? Chipping?

Use a cuticle and nail oil. If you can’t find one at the store grab a bottle of olive oil from your kitchen. Pour into a squeeze bottle and nourish those cuticles and nail beds.

At home most of the time doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the beauty of a lipstick 💄 or lipgloss. A little kiss of color goes a long way. So swipe away and brighten your mouth and your face!

Hope you enjoyed these tips. We’re all in this together… and we’re all looking and feeling a little frayed around the edges.

Have a beautiful day!

America will look beautiful again!
