Every Stone Has a Story in NYC

34TH STREET BITES PHOTOJPG

I promised I’d share my recent adventures back home to NEW YORK CITY.

Let’s get started with that beautiful city they loved so much they named it twice…
NEW YORK,NEW YORK!

Every stone, sidewalk building has a story and tells you it if you listen.I never knew how much I would miss the Northern states until I moved for my husband to the land of sunshine,Disney World and who could forget those beautiful palm trees.

New York is a very special place!

I know I have posted blogs about New York and New Jersey before but I can’t get enough of it. So, this last trip a couple of weeks ago is no exception.

Always delighted to be invited to guest speak and get in some family and fun time too.
All work and no play make Noreen a dull girl!

Here are my TOP TEN Fun Stops in Manhattan this trip

1.You must stop off Broadway just a couple of minutes from MACY’S 34th Street for an all things yummy stop!Eat and drink the night away if you are lucky enough to catch Broadway Bites they are fairly new street food.OUT OF THIS WORLD!

2.Europe’s H&M store is around there too and so are lots of other shops. Get off the main streets and shop until you drop. They don’t call it the Fashion Capitol for nothing.

3.Stop at Joy NAILS across from Madison Square Garden and Penn Station train station for a manicure and pedicure that ends with a shoulder massage and a TOOTSIE ROLL candy…FABULOUS mani & pedi on the cheap!

4.Chinatown stop for some Dim Sum a Chinese version like Tapas that are mini portions of all kinds of food…including chicken feet for the adventurous. The pastry shops that are new to Chinatown have a yummy French Vietnamese influence and taste divine. The fresh fruit stands are amazing and so are the street food hot Chinese donuts made before your very eyes.Need your watch battery fixed? Stop down Mott Street and there is this darling little old man in a tiny cart stand on the street that instantly changes all my watches I may need to bring him…and on the cheap!

*You’ll also find decorative touches for your home, chinaware and great gifts!

5.Take a ride and hop to the station for the Staten Island Ferry as seen in movies you’ll enjoy the view and can almost touch the Statue of Liberty too.

6.Little Italy offers a taste of Italy and has rich movie history from delicious Italian food,Italian deli’s,ice cold gelato and the famous bakery Ferraras!!! Since 1892 they are whipping up the best desserts, cappucinno and more for you!

*If you need a haircut there is even a famous celebrity stop Barber shop.

7.Uptown when I need a chocolate lift there is Serendipity 3 for FROZEN HOT Chocolate treats or a lovely meal.

8.Central Park is NATURE’S eye candy! Enjoy the view and enjoy some ice cream or a street vendor hot dog too.I love to people watch here too!

9.Dinnertime is the perfect time to visit Southern Hospitality an eatery mid town that just happens to be one that Justin Timberlake …yes, you read right Justin Timberlake the quad threat guy AND two of his friends own this down to earth yummy southern style place. I love the Fried Chicken salad and corn bread with honey.I’ll post more about this great place another time.

10 Dylan’s Candy Bar (designer Ralph Lauren’s daughter is a partner in it ) this uptown is a sweet hot spot near Bloomingadales Dept. store where i used to work. You gotta make a trip there and enjoy the candy staircase too. They have candy from your childhood and popular today too.

These are some of my  fave places I hope you will TRY your next trip or your first trip to Manhattan.

Kissing Spring a BIG Hello!

3.14 MacysI know it’s not quite spring everywhere by the weather I heard on TV today but you can still celebrate it in your heart and on your face and body with happy glee!

Here are my top tips to make you look and FEEL Gorgeous this Spring.

1. A cheap and chic NEW lipstick or lip gloss can update your look and face in seconds.
Find a color that brightens your complexion. Choose a light to medium bold color.Say “Bye Bye” to the dark shades.Lighten Up!Brighten Up!

2. Blush on! Choose a blush that accents your cheeks like a pretty coral or pink.Select one with shimmer for a soft luminous look. This gives you a dewy youthful look.

3. Eyeshadow doesn’t have to be complicated.Select one shade and go with it. You don’t have to use two or five shades to make your eyes stand out and look gorgeous.A soft champagne,a soft pink,a gold beige or touch of silver to highlight your eyes. You can mix and match matte and shimmer together for a natural glow look.

4. As a professional I highly recommend you own a rice powder to set your makeup, make your makeup last longer and to tone down shine. It is an Ancient Chinese secret.

5. Nail polish is taking over the world. It has a new look, shades, feel and texture.Pick up a few shades and paint your fingeres and toes creamsicle, sunny yellow or an aqua blue hue.Or better yet have a PRO give you a fresh manicure and pedicure and try a new hue.

6. Accessorize! Your face can look more alive with some new accessories.A little bling goes a long way I LOVE to make my face, neck and eyes glow with a dash of color and sparkle from an earring, necklace and more.

7. Buy a a new scent and spice up make your life with something floral, sweet, sexy or sultry.

8. Go window shopping. It not only will get you out of the house or workplace it will give you ideas to look better and fashionable. This was a happy spring window display I took at Macy’s last week in New York City.

9. You are what you eat…add more spring fruits ripe, ready and in season. Add a healthy rainbow of foods to your diet.

10. Pretty skin and a healthy body needs water.Whip up some water by infusing fresh fruits or veggies in a tall pitcher.Yummy and low cal way to get in your water intake and the light flavor of the fruit tastes awesome.

I hope you have a HAPPY SPRING! Paint the town with the new shade for this Spring…Radiant orchid.

The Beauty of NYC

IMG_7733r Candy Girl Collection…Is that there are all kinds of people, food and a fun fast paced life. I love the electric energy and hustle back home in NYC.

Last weekend New York got even more beautiful when the ladies and gentlemen in the business of beauty came from all over the globe for the one and only International Beauty Show (hair and nails with a touch of makeup),The International Esthetics, Cosmetics and Spa Conference (skin, makeup and wellness) They came to see …What’s New, What’s Hot and What’s Next. I was asked to guest speak again. What a great class. Seeing spa and salon owners sitting at the edge of their seat ready to learn something new and to hear what I have to say too is wonderful. I so love teaching business owners and professionals like these.

The hair show is a step on the wild side. Fantasy meets fun equals latest trends. The spa and wellness side is filled with latest skin care, skin tech tools, anti-aging and wellness.

This Spring 2013 is an anything goes kinda season. COLOR is everywhere! Color in hair with dye and with hair chalk like we played with chalk on the sidewalk when we were kids the hair is chalked with fantasy colors that wash out. Colorful shades to dye for!

SKIN IS SO IN and skin care is #1 if you want your makeup to look flawless…try skin care products with new ingredients like pearl power, bamboo, caffeine, argon oil, shea butter and jojoba to name a few. Clarisonic sonic cleanser is still rocking the skin care industry.

Nails, fingers and toes take center stage! Choose from shades like cotton candy, lovely lilac, light gray, pure white, goldfinger, silver, coral and all shades of green to blue! There are beads, stones and crystals added. The nails are like works of art. Truly NOT your grandma’s nail polish!

MAKEUP is both pretty and pretty wild! There are a rainbow of shades to choose from to brighten up your eyes and define them too.Eyeliner comes in all forms from gerl liners, to liquid pen liners. The smoky eye is more colorful and not only black and the cat eye is colorful too.

Want long rapidly growing lashes? Try Rapid Lash they say you’ll have lush lashes in no time.

Mascara TUBES are still in and give a soft and natural lash look. Not spider girl eyes.

Paint your pout with HAPPY shades of all things pink and flirty coral shades.LIPSTICK has never been hotter.Gloss is still shiny fun and Lip Tars with rich pigments add mega rich color to the lips. Lip stains rule!

Speaking of lips…you can’t have a supersmile and sexy lips without Supersmile toothpaste. It whitens and brightens your teeth to let your gorgeous lipstick shine through.Dental care is just as important as your lipstick!

COLOR is alive and kicking in fashion too! I shopped till I dropped and window shopped the famous Barney’s New York, Henri Bendel,Bloomingdale’s,Macys,Saks Fifth Avenue,Bergdorf’s and the small sweet boutiques all over the city. If you haven’t been to NYC and only watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade on TV…you MUST add it to your list of things to do and places to see!

Well, what are you waiting for? Grab your purse and get going.Shop on and color your faces, fingers and toes with some FUN! Find something fashionable in a new mint, coral or blue sea shades and ENJOY!

The greatest shows on earth!

photoNYCI have packed my all things beauty bags and am ready for my business trip to NEW YORK. Life is good when you are asked to lecture at beauty shows all over the country.
I am sorry I have not had much time to post. I have been up to my pink lips with work and getting beautified to look good at the show. The only thing bad about guest speaking or attending a beauty show is…you HAVE TO look your best. People will notice if your hair is not freshly cut, your skin is looking dull or your makeup is last years look. This is even more important for Educators/makeup artists like me.

Every Spring New York City gets even prettier when beauty professionals and beauty business owners from all over the world attend the IBS and IECSC shows New York Shows.
If you’re anybody in beauty and care enough about your business …you go! It only happens once a year and it is simply fabulous!

I’ll give you a peek on the show floor daily and share with you what’s new in beauty too! I’ll tell you about classes I myself attend and share with you new makeup, hair and nail trends.

NEW YORK and Beauty in the City it is going to be a beauty filled time.

The Magic of Macy’s, Lip Love and New York City!

photo Marilyn Monroe

Those of you who read my blog know I am obsessed with all things lips…including my own. Lips say so much even without saying a word. On my recent work and play trip to NYC,I browsed the windows before I shopped inside Macy’s. I love to do this and feel like Audrey Hepburn in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s.This store has my heart too.
This photo is one of several windows that Macy’s featured in a tribute to Marilyn Monroe! You can see why I loved it besides my passion for lips and fashion!

If you’ve never been you must see this giant store I so adore. I used to sell cosmetics there doing cosmetic promotions. Macy’s where you live? It’s not quite the same. This is an iconic landmark, a tourist attraction a sight to behold and to shop the day away.
They not only have fabulous shopping and prices. They have an amazing array of eateries and delightful food, bakery and chocolate departments.

If you go to NYC sign up in the customer service department for their special one day discount card and a free MACY’S gift if you shop till you drop and spend a nominal amount on goodies.
Macy’s LOVE TOURISTS and out-of-town guests!

Let’s not forget all they do for us at Thanksgiving with the Macy’s Day parade…spreading happiness, love & Santa~
I love THE MAGIC OF and shopping at Macy’s Herald Square Department store. If you haven’t been add it to your Bucket List of places to go! Shop on!

Dirty Bird warmed me to my hips!

Oh how I love to share beauty and food finds with you. This one is one I enjoyed on a hot day in NEW YORK City last week.

Dirty Bird To Go is in the Union Square almost Meat Packing vicinity downtown NYC. I found out about it on the Cooking Channel- TV and just had to explore!

The fried chicken was crunchy delicious and they only use raised in Amish country Pennsylvania birds, certified humane, free to roam, antibiotic free.

They are not dirty far from it. Just a crazy fun name for crazy good chicken!

The location is bustling with a mix of all kinds of people who work in the area or people who live in this charming neighborhood.

It is a small eclectic cutie of a find with employees ready to serve not only the best chicken and cornbread and more BUT to serve you. I had called twice for directions as I took the subway and got a bit sidetracked in the wrong direction.

They serve things beyond fried chicken and have salads and home-made lemonade too.  The cornbread was the most unusual I have ever had. The decadent macaroni and cheese warmed me all the way to my hips.

I loved this place. I blog from the heart. Try it…you may just love it like I did. Comfort food at its best! They call it FAST Slow food!

I  call it sole food worth walking miles for!

HOME-MADE by chefs with LOVE!
