Not Your Mama’s Eyewear

mom 3

I’m ALWAYS losing or breaking my glasses. I came across this chic line of quality eye wear AKA reading glasses and want to share. Inspired by the runways of Gucci,Valentino, Oscar de la renta and Dolce and Gabbana the styles are chic and on point. The brand touts they are not your mama’s reading glasses but they should be.

Meet Flutter Eyewear

The fun factor part about selecting and buying them is the paper doll template you cut out and get to try on your face  to test drive the style you are interested in. They also have a section where you select a style based on your face shape.

I love the reader style Clarice Little Black Dress with a red lipstick!

And don’t ya just love the darling names?

Oh and they even make sunnies! My fave is the style named Ayla sun Cognac Kyoto.

Now, I CAN take a walk on the beach looking for seashells or read a magazine and SEE yet protect my eyes and say no to wrinkles around my eyes from squinting too.

Oh and I almost forgot to tell you they come packaged in a gorgeous red box with a  carrying case and note card.

Check them out…oh and it just may be a great gift for MOM or Glamma this year.

Beauty,Beauty and more beauty in the Big Apple!

photo DeltaA week ago I escaped the blizzard and traveled to NYC for work and play. I was bound and determined not to let the cold weather get in my way.I arrived safe by Delta Airlines and landed almost an hour sooner than scheduled. The sun was shining gloriously and the weather was awesome in the 60’s. I checked in to my first hotel and quickly had attend to refresh and go to two planned beauty events. I  discovered new beauty products to show on my beauty and lifestyle segment on NBC12- TV. I also love to see what I would like to enjoy and add to my own beauty routine. My first stop was at a loft terrace in a sun-drenched  huge room. I sipped champagne, noshed on yummy treats and explored what’s hot a new.The best part besides the awesome products I saw. They served up COTTON CANDY fresh from an old time machine! How cool was that! I love cotton candy in its soft rainbow fluffy hues of sweetness.More to come in another post on the products I enjoyed and fell in love with.

Next stop I hustled in a cab to the event of the year. It happens once a year. NYC beauty editors, cosmetics executives and anyone who is anyone in beauty attend the Cosmetic Exec Women event. We sniff, touch, smell, play and test drive NEW beauty launches from the past 12 months. After we do this we vote after testing some more brands at home. There are many categories. Makeup,Hair,Skin,Nails,Fragrance,Male Grooming,Beauty Tools nail polish and so much more.It is a exciting packed party of wall to wall women. Each year is different. This year QVC was offering makeup applications and even gave us a cosmetic bag.Hair was being styled and more. And did I mention they had cupcakes and cocktails?

After the tabulations are all in brands receive an Academy award of beauty no not a gold statue but winning  is the most coveted accolade you want by a beauty brand. My swag weighed in at 12 lbs.Two fast and furious hours of a really packed pavilion.

The next day while the weather was still in the 60’s I had a few business meetings but made time to go downtown for Chinese Brunch called DIM SUM at one of my fav’ places in Chinatown section of NYC. The Joy Luck Palace. I was seated with two women and two of their nurses who took them o the city for an outing. They were from Hong Kong and 95 and 99 years young. So fun to watch the friendship between the two ladies. The older one was a fashionista dripping in jade jewelry. The two ladies did not speak English but I understood the language of their smiles, facial expressions, laughter and appearance.Women push carts filled with hot Chinese food from soup to dumplings to chicken feet.

My fave’ Dim Sum was 3  little piggies sitting in the bamboo steamer looking at me! They were meant for the end of the meal. A warm fluffy dough filled with a creme brulle kind of cream and it also reminded me of the yummiest vanilla pudding. The Chef’s  here make the best tiny bites of love.If you have never tried or enjoyed dim sum you must find a place to dine in your travels.

Did I mention I got caught in the first flurry of snow and slush and had not packed any boots? MY husband told me I wouldn’t need them.Note to self…never not pack your boots with all your other needed winter gear.

Window shopping is the best shopping! I window shopped all the hot stores like Bloomingdales,Macy’s and Bendel’s and more. I used to live here and really miss having this city at my feet on a daily basis. But I also shopped the fashion district too and discovered some amazing fabrics. So inspiring.Even stopping by candy stores and food stands gives me yummy inspiration since I so love candy and beauty too.

I took some time for at my fav’ places for a mani, pedi and facial too.And I discovered some more places to shop and play for K beauty too.

Oh and I went to the International Beauty Show and guest spoke at the International Esthetics,Cosmetics and Spa show. The show floor was filled with the latest and greatest in the world of beauty. Then came the SNOW.Thank goodness I was already booked on a flight the day before the storm.

Off on another beauty trip soon.Gotta unpack to pack.Stay tuned for more on my beauty adventures.

Recipe for Your Throat

BLOG throat recipe photoMade it back from New York! I worked,I shopped, I dined and conquered the days before the blizzard. On the return flight someone behind me on the plane kept on coughing (and did not cover her mouth) all two hours and 45 minutes of the flight.

Not sure what I have caught but since I am on TV today at 3:00 for my beauty and lifestyle segment on NBC 12’s The Chat…I need to help my voice.

As the weather goes up and down all over the country and a chill in the air can make us feel like bad and come down with a cold or sore throat… give this recipe a try.

Here is one of my personal recipes for a dry sore throat:

A teaspoon raw local honey

1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon powder

*A sprinkle of cayenne pepper

Take twice daily for three days. It is antiviral,anti-bacterial and anti-fungal.

Enjoy it as you wish!

I do this straight up on a spoon or my fave is to put it in hot water and sip like a cup of tea.

Works like a charm!

Stay tuned to my blog this weekend all about my adventures in beauty, fashion and food from NYC.

On the Go again!

Never a dull moment. How’s life with you?

Starting to pack my makeup bags and luggage. I am so ready to work and rock  New York City too. As much as I travel for work and play…packing is always a challenge when I have to fly for my work.Between the beauty supplies needed as a working make-up artist. So many rules too much beauty and clothes! I want to take every lipstick and walk in closet with me!

Other than working which is my fave’ thing to! I look forward to taking it all in…the city that is and the many things it does for my spirit and soul.I miss living up north.

PS

Found this artist on Instagram who drew this playful illustration of me and my LOVE for makeup and all things LIPS!

I am wild about this shade …it is like a violet with a touch of pink ! Do you like this hue?

I am hoping to find clothes and accessories in this hue! May even create a lipstick in that shade for my cosmetic line too.

SPRING is calling me!

Stay tuned …I can’t wait to share my beauty, travel and food adventures from my trip with you!

A Makeup artist’s …MUST HAVE!

On movie sets,TV shows we love, photo shoots in Hollywood, New York and Las Vegas… there is a big beauty buzz on this invention.Created by a woman and a PROfessional Makeup Artist!

While I never practiced using my hand as a makeup application pallette many women and men in the industry do.I am featuring these on my beauty and lifestyle segment today on a daytime TV show I do called The Chat seen on NBC12 in sunny Florida!

I want to bring attention to this brand as I really think it makes a lot of sense and is much needed. I don’t want somebody to make up my face with their lunch, body heat and more coming out of their pores. I know you know what I mean.Think about it. It is so much ore sanitary to use this Hygienic hand pallette skin shield by Hygeniskin.Latex free. It is essential. Effortless clean up and healthier for you and your clients health too.

The most amazing part of this brand is beside the invention itself is the woman behind the brand.Unfortunately she is no longer with us.She died of cancer but her husband is carrying on her brand and legacy.I want to help George keep it going and alive too !

As seen in the TREND REPORT by American Spa magazine as one of the hottest brands for 2017.

So, if you are  a makeup artist, studying to be one or simply care about being more sanitary when doing your makeup….you need this product in your life!

Peace,Love and Blowouts!

drybar-photo-blog-jpgHave you ever had an actual blowout? No, not your tire blowout but a hair blowout. Many women do not know what it is.

A couple of weeks ago  a new spot for hair opened in Jacksonville,Florida. This is epic for the city. The name of the business is DRYBAR.

No cuts,no color, just blowouts!!! That’s all they do.

I have had this service done at other salons across the country but never by this brand. I tried to get one a blowout while working in these cities… Las Vegas,NYC and Chicago bu all locations were booked. They have sixty locations to serve you and offer long convenient hours. They recently opened a shop in a section called Brooklyn. So, being homesick and craving my NYC. I HAD TO GO!

The reception at the front desk was awesome. They took a good guess on my name and calling me by it once I walked in.What caught my eye first is all the yellow and white decor and when you enter the overhead lamp is made with a yellow blow dryer.

Pretty cool!

Next they asked me if I wanted something to drink. The offerings were:water, coffee, tea and a Champagne mimosa. I of course chose the Mimosa.

Blowouts I could choose from the service menu were named after drinks. If you don’t drink alcohol this could be a problem. But the services are described beautifully in the menu alongside pictures of how that style will look.

The Straight Up

The Manhattan

The Cosmo

The Mai Tai

The Cosmo-tini

Southern Comfort

Dirty Martini

The Uptini

Shirley Temple for kids or pre-teens

Add a braid to your service

I chose the Manhattan and a dash of Southern Comfort.

What  I wasn’t ready for was it took a total of 45 minutes! The stylists wash and work at styling and blow dry every strand of hair and they follow a certain protocol. If you do not want your locks to be pampered… you may not like this service.

I enjoyed my experience and you will too. Give them a whirl!

The holidays are coming and you may just need that special look for all the holiday parties and New Years Eve too. #treatyoself!

$40.00 per service

Clean Your Dirty Face!

Just back from glorious Chicago. I LOVE this town.

Most of you who read my blog know I always make time for play when I TRAVEL for my work!

I have been longing to get a facial but it has been so hectic for me no time to get one in my town. While I do give them to myself and professionally do them. BUT it isn’t quite the same as someone giving  you a cleansing facial.

I found a fun looking business card at a hair salon in town that was filled with color, these words and an artistic shot. I simply had to explore!!!Dirty Face

This place is a modern cool place with a fun color filled vibe. The owner was  a charismatic delight. She said her name was Angel and to me she was.Her spirit was amazing.

No RELAXATION… Just a face steam, cleansing and mask rubbed in.Before I knew it the party was over.I never had a facial like this before! If you ever find yourself in downtown  Chicago and you have limited time for a facial you need to take a trip to MUD FACIAL BAR. My skin glowed.

Next, I met friends for lunch and then got in some more shopping. While I so appreciate the beauty, food and shopping fun that the uptown Magnificent Mile has to offer…I love playing downtown Chicago. If you are up that way.Book an appointment ad rejuvenate at George the Salon. They have a new Citrus Crushed Pearl massage.

Merz Apothecary is my go to for old world charm, luxurious soaps, candy pastilles, eco beauty and so much more.My husband loves to visit this place when he is in Chicago too.

Looking for a unique clothing and accessories shop on the cheap and chic? Agaci is for you!

Oh and the cherry on top …the day I was leaving for the airport and sipping tea at the W Hotel I was reading a magazine and found my musts have for next time.Celebrities LOVE her Nobody does nails like celebrity manicurist ASTROWIFEY. Catch her if you can.LADY GAGA,Kylie Jenner need I say more?

I love Chicago almost as much as I love my NEW YORK CITY. There is so much to do there. If you’ve never been, take a drive or a flight and enjoy the beauty of the city and the beautiful lakes too!
