Ancient Chinese Beauty…

I am an all American girl that happens to be Eurasian and my husband says I am a Combination Platter off the Chinese Take Out Menu. People ALWAYS ask me what is my nationality. Even more when I moved from up North to sunny Florida. When I moved here for my husband I was so in love ❤️ I forgave Florida for the HOT 🥵 temperatures and the horrific humidity. But as time went by I came to the conclusion I hate the heat and my makeup melting. I also noticed brides and bridal parties hated it too. So, I pulled out my little box of love for my complexion and made them look amazing. This box is my makeup savior and go to. I have used it on my face since I was a teen and now on my clients for TV work, red carpet beauty moments, photo shoots and for my brides and bridal parties. I use it on men too!

It is an Ancient Chinese Beauty secret handed down from generation to generation.

What is it?

A white looking brownie (yes like the Brownie we eat). It is a hard cake that becomes loose when stroked and applied with a Kabuki powder brush.

Beautiful Benefits?

  • It is feather light powder that makes your makeup last longer.
  • Makes your colors remain true especially when you have issues with your makeup turning colors and helps them remain true.
  • Great for oily skin and complexions with a bit of acne
  • Tones down shine!
  • Sets your makeup!

But wait there’s MORE!

When I make up my face or a client’s face and I accidentally put a bit more blush on or eye shadow too overpowering or doesn’t look right….I simply take a brush, dip into my rice powder and clean up,soften and blend it out.

Oh and not only does it look great on brides and photographs nicely. It also is great for women of a certain age who get steamy and hot flash! Calms the heat and the powder cools the skin with a soft matte finish.

If  YOU or your friends makeup is missing that little something or you crave all things Asian Beauty and or something new this is for YOU!

I don’t think I could live without IT alongside a gorgeous 💄 Lipstick of course!

Makeup Tips for Tweenagers and Teens

kelllllllllllllli2When it comes to makeup Tweens and Teens I know you want to start wearing makeup a lot sooner than when I was growing up! While I love MAKEUP and own a beauty candy shoppe …my message to you is to embrace your face! Don’t rush! Live in the moment and enjoy your beauty and the beauty of growing up today.

Here are a few tips and tricks to remember:

SUNSCREEN is a girl’s best friend.

Cleaning your face at night is a MUST.(Even if you don’t wear makeup.)Don’t go to sleep with makeup on EVER.

Learn to LOVE water. It is so good for your health and your skin.If you are not wild about it make spa water. It is so much fun to make at home.New recipe to follow in next blog.

YOU are what you eat…try and eat a balanced diet. And a cupcake sometime.

Take care of your skin.Don’t use deodorant bars on your delicate face.Use a soap bar that is made for the complexion.I love home-made bars by crafters like a skin Clarity bar that gently cleans and exfoliates.
If you have normal to very dry skin don’t use this type bar. Go for a goat’s milk hydrating bar or something like a Dove soap.

A face mask is a must. I love to wash away impurities and clean my skin with a clay based mask.

If you are a 8,9,10,11 or 12 years old:SORRY…you don’t need to wear ANY makeup except a lip gloss, balm or lip conditioner. YOU are beautiful they way you are.

If you 13 or 14 years old you can use a soft lipstick or lip gloss and soft shade of blush is fine.

If you are 15,16,:a pretty lipstick, gloss, blush and a kiss of a neutral pretty eyeshadow is fine.Mascara for special occassions.Clear mascara is another option for brows and lash definition.

NO FOUNDATION for any age below 15 years old. Yes,really.Your lashes are beautiful.

18 is the perfect age to start to wear: A dash of tinted moisturizer, beauty balm,or a soft application of foundation is fine.A lipstick or gloss, one pretty eyeshadow to highlight the eyes. Mascara in the form of tubes.(easy to remove and does not run) A kiss of blush to the apple of your cheeks.
Rice powder to set your makeup or a setting spray.

Beauty Note: STAY AWAY FROM black mascara or liner unless it is in the evening or if you want to make your eyes look defined but smaller.Opt for a navy, teal, eggplant mascara and they will always make your eyes look bigger.Don’t overdo mascara and look like tarantella eyes.It is not a pretty look.

Please note: As a professional makeup artist I highly recommend and am in beauty love with the magic of rice powder. It tones down shine, makes your makeup last longer,is fabulous for girls or guys with acne or even a mature woman.

Concealer or cover-up is optional at your age. If you do need it buy it in the form of a lipstick tube.Easy to apply and is used for undereye circles and for blemishes.

Don’t wear chipped nail polish.Keep those nails looking good with a sheer metallic shade. These shades don’t show chips.
Or try a bold or hot new color.

Go for a makeup lesson and have someone teach you the RIGHT way to take care of your skin and how to do your makeup for every day.

Look your age! Don’t do your makeup over the top or worse yet be a CAKE FACE!

You are only YOUNG and your age once! Enjoy the ride.
Have fun and kiss & makeup!

Kissing Spring a BIG Hello!

3.14 MacysI know it’s not quite spring everywhere by the weather I heard on TV today but you can still celebrate it in your heart and on your face and body with happy glee!

Here are my top tips to make you look and FEEL Gorgeous this Spring.

1. A cheap and chic NEW lipstick or lip gloss can update your look and face in seconds.
Find a color that brightens your complexion. Choose a light to medium bold color.Say “Bye Bye” to the dark shades.Lighten Up!Brighten Up!

2. Blush on! Choose a blush that accents your cheeks like a pretty coral or pink.Select one with shimmer for a soft luminous look. This gives you a dewy youthful look.

3. Eyeshadow doesn’t have to be complicated.Select one shade and go with it. You don’t have to use two or five shades to make your eyes stand out and look gorgeous.A soft champagne,a soft pink,a gold beige or touch of silver to highlight your eyes. You can mix and match matte and shimmer together for a natural glow look.

4. As a professional I highly recommend you own a rice powder to set your makeup, make your makeup last longer and to tone down shine. It is an Ancient Chinese secret.

5. Nail polish is taking over the world. It has a new look, shades, feel and texture.Pick up a few shades and paint your fingeres and toes creamsicle, sunny yellow or an aqua blue hue.Or better yet have a PRO give you a fresh manicure and pedicure and try a new hue.

6. Accessorize! Your face can look more alive with some new accessories.A little bling goes a long way I LOVE to make my face, neck and eyes glow with a dash of color and sparkle from an earring, necklace and more.

7. Buy a a new scent and spice up make your life with something floral, sweet, sexy or sultry.

8. Go window shopping. It not only will get you out of the house or workplace it will give you ideas to look better and fashionable. This was a happy spring window display I took at Macy’s last week in New York City.

9. You are what you eat…add more spring fruits ripe, ready and in season. Add a healthy rainbow of foods to your diet.

10. Pretty skin and a healthy body needs water.Whip up some water by infusing fresh fruits or veggies in a tall pitcher.Yummy and low cal way to get in your water intake and the light flavor of the fruit tastes awesome.

I hope you have a HAPPY SPRING! Paint the town with the new shade for this Spring…Radiant orchid.

Discover Beauty & Health Secrets of Asian women!

China doll collectionIt
This Friday is the start of the lunar New Year and although I am a FOODIE I am also in Beauty and LOVE sharing my passion! I love to eat, cook and makeup. So this year I am sharing some beauty and not food recipes.
My favorite places when I travel are the various neighborhoods I especially ADORE exotic Chinatown. I find there is such a mystique about Asian women and how they look…even in their golden years. On a personal note as an all American girl who just happens to be of Chinese and Polish ancestry I can truly relate to the mystery as well.

Growing up I often wondered what was the white yet translucent block of face powder?
The exotic bamboo face brushes?
What were the vials or mini bottles they would drink?
The unusual food with both salty and sweet taste and the unique fruits and vegetables. As time went on I learned there is a reason for everything and every product. I too began using these beauty potions and to this day, still do.

Celebrities are all about the secrets from the Orient too. So can you!

I am delighted to share some notable beauty secrets that you can start using in your beauty regimens too if you would like.

Asian women I have interviewed from China to Japan all agree they were told to stay out of the sun. If they were in the sun for work or errands they wear large straw hats and some even go as far as wearing white gloves. Most Asian women freckle easy and do not like sunspots.

Tea is an everyday beauty ritual. All kinds of tea from white tea to oolong tea. To fight off cancer they love green tea. To give them energy and stamina ginseng tea. There is even a tea for inner cleansing and detoxifying tea. Note: They customarily do not use sugar or sweet and low in their tea. Did you know that tea also freshens breath and keeps your gums healthy too? Allow me to turn you on to a delightful type tea.
Jasmine tea is both delicious, smells and tastes divine. You must try it.

Asians love their fruits and vegetables. They shop everyday for fresh food even for fish and meats. They love healthy stir-fry dishes. They try to avoid greasy or deep-fried foods. If they do have them, they eat it in moderation. Asian people have all kinds of recipes good for your health recipes and unique delicacies

Rice is a favorite food in their diet as well. It fills you up faster and low in fat. so you tend to eat less. Soups as main meals are another way to eat and stay trim. They fill the bowl with chicken or beef stock and toss in fresh veggies. What a delightful explosion of tastes!

Ginger is revered by many cultures. The Chinese use it to aid digestion, treat stomach upsets, and revitalize the skin and to relieve diarrhea and nausea for more than 2,000 years. I recommend you make a tea out of it. Simply cut a few slices of it and pour boiling hot water over them. It will calm your tummy down.
It is also wonderful to cook with.

Ginseng is an excellent supplement to improve your energy levels and mental alertness. It is also used to help lower cholesterol levels.

Jade Face Skin Smoothing Roller: Asian Royalty has used it for years. Excellent when rolled unto the face for revitalizing the skin by bringing the blood to the surface. Also is very relaxing. One side is for eyelid area and other side for face. You have to feel it to believe it’s magic. I am addicted.

Pearl Cream is a beauty must have. To this day Asians use this ant-aging ancient secret cream. It is made of crushed pearls and other emollients. It’s opaque in color and melts on your fingers when applied to the face and becomes translucent. It helps brighten the complexion by lightening sunspots and keeps the skin moist and hydrated. It smells as if you visited a flower garden.
Day Spas all over the globe offer luxurious PEARL facials that brighten and condition the skin.

Rice powder is a square block of powder that looks like the size of a brownie. This powder makes your make up last longer and tones down shine. If you have a problem with peri-menopause or menopause it helps to prevent makeup meltdown. It can be used by itself on your skin or over makeup base. It is unisex. It is applied with a kabuki powder brush

It also comes in a powder to go version. A little notebook of 70 papers come to this business card like booklet. It powders the face as well as blots oil. They are called Asian Powder Papers.

Shark fin supplements and other herb shop potions are recommended to keep their fountain of youth. Even the celebrities are doing it. They say Nicole Kidman the actress takes them to keep her skin looking gorgeous and younger looking.

Dragon fruit: As argon oil is the new buzz in skin care so is the dragon fruit for our skin cells. This pink delight does wonders for the complexion when added to skin care. I love to eat it by itself.

My recipe for a cheap D.I.Y Jasmine Rice Face Mask:
Take a cup of rice, rinse gently. Next pour the rinsed rice into a clear small bowl with enough water to cover it. Wait until a milky residue appears. This is your facemask. On a clean face, place the milky watery solution from the rice on your face with a drenched cotton pad. Let it dry. Rinse with a luke warm washcloth and warm water. You will feel so refreshed and your skin will feel like silk from this facial smoothie.

If you have never been to the Orient nor a Chinatown in a big city. It is a must do. It is fascinating, interesting to learn the culture and a delight to your eyes! Stop by a tea shop, explore the fresh markets and visit the herb shops where you can consult the doctor for what ails you…for free! (In most cities) He or she asks you questions and by
looking at your tongue and into your eyes recommends medicine for you!

Your fountain of youth and energy is at your fingertips.
Chinese New Year is approaching and you do not have to be Asian to celebrate the beauty finds, food finds and healthy tips.
Life is an adventure…explore beyond your door!Got a beauty question on the above? Email me.

Mom’s Easy Guide to looking pretty!

I did a beauty and lifestyle segment on The Morning Show today and wanted to share with you some beauty and fashions secrets.

Mommy Makeup in minutes

First of all… you don’t need to wear a buffet of beauty on your face. Keep it soft and simple for daytime.
A tinted moisturizer…like Not Your Mother’s Foundation which has both a touch of foundation in a bottle of moisturizer.Pretty coverage and protection too. This is mult-tasking beauty at its best.

If you don’t want to use this type product and prefer less…at least apply a broad spectrum sunscreen like COOLA mineral sunscreen. If you love organic and unscented they’ve got you covered too.

Next add a few dots of salmon or honey yellow concealer to take away a pooped out appearance…around the eyes and the inner corner of the eyes too. Blend with warmth of your ring finger.

Next add a kiss of color to your cheeks with a soft brown bronzer with a dash of shimmer. Or choose a pinky peach for another type of healthy glow.

A lip gloss or a lip balm is the lazy girls go to product.
I also LOVE and highly recommend a creamy lasting lip stain like the ones on http://www.noreenyoung.com. They stain your lips with a nice rosy glow and are one step not three. Not drying nor do they make the lips peel or flake…just gorgeous healthy looking lips.

Mascara is optional…yes, optional! IF YOU cannot live without it…wear mascara and or accent your eyes with a soft liner in a chocolate or charcoal or COLOR.Clear mascara is IN~ Note: colored mascaras brighten the eye area. Dark black or brown will accent a tired appearance.

Want TO SET your makeup, make it last and a touch of natural color to your eyelids too? Try Asian Rice Powder! IT IS MAGIC. I am wearing it right now as I usually do and the work day is almost over and my makeup is lasting too~ Simply apply a dash of this block of powder that looks like a white brownie with your powder brush. Also apply it to your entire eyelid with an eyeshadow blending brush and you’ll have a soft NOT POWDERY LOOK eye shade and a natural finished face too. NOT a caked on face! I promise.

Spray a dash of your fav’ fragrance or sprinkle yourself with a dusting powder and you’ll look and smell delicious.Your hand and body lotion can be the fragrance of the day. It will both make you smell delightful and hydrate your skin too.

Pure hair eco friendly spray by IT&LY is a great on the go spray.
This company loves the planet and your hair too! Always keep hairspray and if your hair is medium length or longer carry a hair clip or pretty pony holder in your tote bag or diaper bag. Using it will instantly make you look more polished even on a bad hair day.

If you are really pressed for time do what celebrities do! Wear a gorgeous pair of sunglasses and a sexy shiny gloss or bold lipstick. A smile is the best accessory you can wear and a pretty pair of earrings or a unique scarf or sparkling necklace can make your face and skin glow.

There’s no excuse why you don’t have 3, 5, or less than 10 minutes in the morning to look good for you.

A little dash of color goes a long way!

I do it every day and do it for me first and the world second too.
They say presentation is everything…present yourself in a beautiful way and feel good too.

Take a wok on the wild side, beauty and more!

NB8J0361It is the year of the snake and our lunar year celebration is now in full swing. We were cleaning up,dumpling making and getting all dolled up for a brand new LUNAR YEAR! Yes,I get to celebrate both new year celebrations.Lucky me!
We are decorating in red and have our jade on…families are celebrating all over the globe!

I’d like to share a few things with you! My FUN take on Chinese customs.Rice powder is a beauty custom that is centuries old. It looks like a white square brownie but don’t try and eat it….just wear it. It tones down shine, makes your makeup last longer and gives you a matte finish. It is also great for guys too!

Drinking HOT not cold Asian Tea is good for your health. It balances out your digestive tract and cleans out the grease from foods according to my herbalist in Chinatown. Drinking it cold does not do the same.

Pearl cream is an ANCIENT Chinese secret that Asian women use for anit-aging.It softens the skin and makes hyper-pigmentation lighten over time.I USE and love it too.Smells dreamy and is opaque and creamy.

I try and use chopsticks on a daily basis…it helps me control my weight cause I eat less! And using them is a lot of fun!

Veggies are a staple in Asian cooking…and in looking good. FRESH is best and Asian women shop for them daily not weekly. Stir some up and stir fry for your health. Go ahead take a wok on the wild side. You don’t have to be Chinese to do it.

Want prettier skin? Give your face a jasmine rice face mask. Stay tuned for the recipe and MORE! Gotta celebrate Chinese New year some more with dinner for two with my sweetie.

Smile and say Cheese!

 IMG_5336

The holiday season is in full swing and taking pictures at parties and family events will be a part of it. Last week on my  TV segment for The Morning Show I showed the viewers a peek inside my professional makeup box. So, it’s only natural I had to share them with you.

What you will need is to first make sure your face is clean and polished. I love to use a sonic cleanser like Clarisonic skin system. I also highly recommend you use a good face cleansing mask like Splendid Dirt by Farmhouse Fresh or look for a Firming and Tightening one. Guys need to get in on the action too. A microdermabrasion Crystal Peel soap or cleanser will clean the skin and buff away a tired appearance and dead skin. Hydration is key on TV I showed Dermatude Hydra Booster moisturizer but any good moisturizer will do. So, clean skin is important and so is hydration. I like to use an eye gel on all my photographic work,my clients amd one my face day and night. Your eyes are the windows to your soul, if they look dehydrated and tired it will show in the pictures. If you use concealer and I hope you do..make it a salmon colored concealer. This color obliterates a pooped out look. As we age, so does the skin around our eyes and we get a darker ring around the eye especially the inner corner. Next, a face primer is your answer to poreless looking skin. To make your pores look smaller and makeup to LAST this is a must. This product is applied before foundation but after moisturizer.  For the ladies you need to use a richer foundation or a product called Not Your Mother’s Foundation to even out the complexion. Applying more blush is a must especially when it comes to picture taking. Otherwise you can look really washed out.

A mascara in dark blue, green, eggplant or brown/black will define your lashes and make the whites of your eyes look brighter.

A luscious shiny gloss or a medium shade to bright lipstick will make your lips look stunning. Skip a strong shade of lip liner if you want less of a lined outline look or try an invisible lip liner. It locks color in place and defines the lips to make them look larger or smaller. Even children and men need a lip conditioner. The weather outside is colder in most parts of the world or downright freezing so the lips will dry out, peel, flake and look bad.

Set the make-up with Asian Rice Face Powder or an HD face powder . Even the men need this over their moisturizer to look less shiny in photos. Balding guys can help that receding hairline by applying this magical trick of powder to that area. Always work in downward strokes so the hair follicles won’t fly up and be so noticeable.

Now, for the hair…make sure you have a fresh haircut or trim. Hairspray is a must I am in love with Italy Hair Fashion spray. I recommend it to my color treated hair clients to make their salon visits last longer. Spray softly and smooth away those  flyaways with my fav’ brush called the WET Brush. It will detangle and be your go to brush.

Wear nail polishor get a manicure  in case your hands show in the photo, especially if you take a close up and they are in the photo. I love some neutral shades by OPI.

A soft natural look will not do…I don’t want you to look like “cake face” and over do…I simply want you to be aware you’re not running errands or jogging…you need some makeup, a bit more color to your face and the right tools to look GREAT in photographs.

If you’d like to learn more on this subject go to www.news4jax.com and see ME on TV and  my beautiful photographer and friend Anetta Nadolna of Art ‘N’  Illusion Photography and salon with more tips on how to pose for pretty pictures and what to wear. (She’s the photogrpaher of my new photo in my last post and on my profile page.)

Create some memories and take some beautiful and fun family photos. A pictures says a thousand words! What will yours say about you?

Hot off the beauty press… Makeup Brush~

I love this BRUSH!

I found it at a beauty show in NYC. It was designed by a make-up brush manufacturer for mineral makeup. It is made with less hairs and the sparse look is really amazing on the skin. Full yet not full. Sparse yet not too sparse. Unless you have it in your hand you don’t know how it feels. It’s a brush you simply have to try on your face. I love it with loose powder, rice powder, compact powder, body powder.

There is so much talk about mineral makeup and how you simply swirl, tap and buff your face to a beautiful new you. Makeup so pure you can sleep in it. It’s mineral madness~ An almost cult like beauty experience.

Girls, NO makeup is so pure you can sleep in it. You must wash your face morning and night. A healthy complexion depends on it. What if you didn’t wash your hair? What if you didn’t brush your teeth daily what would you look like?

I have tried the mineral makeups out on the market and have not fallen in love with any of them yet.

What I do know is I love this face and body powder brush

It gives my face a flawless, pretty finish not quite like the beloved Kabuki brush.

 I am hooked!

Doesn’t she look …delicious?

Sorry I have been up to my lips with life and my business and not had a chance to post. Being me is exhausting. I have so much to say since my last post on beauty finds from the NYC International Beauty Show. I promise I will post more.

Here is a peek inside of what I have been up to.

This photo shoot was LOTS of fun! The model was just perfect for what the client wanted and photographed wonderfully. Sometimes photo shoots are a challenge. At times the model is all about her and not about your needs. This shoot it was all about the client and our model Kelli was very willing and open to the makeup artist(me).

I wanted a look for her that was SWEET and approachable via the eye!

Doesn’t she look DELICIOUS? I
