Now that Easter has come and gone there are plenty of sales on Easter candy, plastic eggs and more!
Go stock up and pick up some plastic eggs and eat a few on sale Peeps along the way!
I love to repurpose, ♻️ recycle and reuse!
How about you? Do you like to be eco-friendly and love Mother Nature too? Do you live and love Easter 🐣 decorations and candy too?
If you use beauty sponges or blenders and don’t want to spring for an expensive travel holder for them. Use a plastic egg instead!
Make sure you buy the eggs in a few sizes to play with what ones will work for your sponge type and size. I like the ones with the tiny holes on the end. But if you can’t find them buy and use the other type.
They keep air circulating, to store them “on the go” or to store at home if you’d like. The eggs protect the sponge and keep it clean you and you too and no messy makeup fingers! Until you get a chance to wash them. As a professional make-up artist I like to use them on set on location too.

Time to start spring cleaning for your home and for your beauty routine. I know what some of you are thinking it is cold and snowy outside but here in Florida the birds are churping and it is getting HOT. It was so cold but the azaleas are in full bloom. One day it is 80 degrees the next it is 30’s.
When you can try and take some time to clean out the “beauty clutter”.
Choose a drawer, a shelf and more and explore. One area at a time. Lay out all of your things and go over each product or item.
How does it look?
Does it smell?
Are you STILL using it?
When was that? How long? If you can’t even remember maybe it’s time to throw it out!
Is it really really dirty?
Bacteria is doing the samba on your beauty, skin care and makeup tools. Think about throwing them out or wipe the containers down with rubbing alcohol and tap water. Wipe down the mirrors with a glass cleaner too.
Go ahead and do the same to your makeup brushes and sponges too. After you do place what you no longer use in the garbage and WASH your makeup brushes and tools with a makeup brush balm or brush cleaner.
If things are broken, mirrors have a chip or crack you might want to replace that product or buy something new to replace it too.
Still in the midst of the pandemic we need to keep all things super clean! Don’t take a chance with your health.
I mentioned this brand and sanitizing case before but maybe it is time you add a SterileLight disnfecting case to your home or office life. Great for beauty, skincare, makeup brushes, tech tools, iPhones and so much more!
Today while running a few quick errands I came across two women I could not stop looking at! While the were waiting on me at the cash register I was mesmerized by their lovely personality! They really seemed to love their job and happy to even have one.
I also noticed a high frost all over one of the employees faces. She shimmered, sparkled, glowed, gleamed, glimmered and looked like as shiny as the TIN Man off the Wizard of Oz movie. It was everywhere!
Inner corners of her eyes, up her nose, on the tip of her nose (She did not cover her nose with her face mask 😷 properly) and all over the apple of her cheeks. Her brow hairs even got in on the shimmer action! She too was a lovely pretty young woman who clearly overdosed on the makeup. Mainly foundation.
My beauty secret here is ALWAYS make up your face with good lighting or a sunlit window. Blend, blend, blend. Less is truly more!
And if you don’t feel like you are good at doing your own makeup 💄 or feel you’re not sure of the color choices that are right for you! Consult a beauty or skincare PRO.
When it’s safe to get an appointment for a makeup lesson. As most of us professionals are following CDC guidelines and not doing face to face or Lip 👄 to lip 👄lessons.
I think she has been watching a lot of YouTube videos! The makeup distracted me from her true beauty.
My next stop the girl had so much foundation on even with a mask. Her forehead, cheeks, lower jawline and neck I could see on all sides of the face. Her foundation was a Tan Orange. I so wanted to blend that down or give her a complete makeover right there on the spot.
Were already into the new year and I KNOW some of you have made new year resolutions, some of you may have not kept those resolutions and some of you have not even made any. That’s OK!
We’ve already had a crazy start to the new year!
But I think its a perfect time to refresh our makeup and and start fresh with some new skincare. I know you’ve heard it all before but we have to throw out our makeup and skincare at some point. It doesn’t last forever and now with Covid we have to protect our health, skin, eyes and body even more. Bacteria is doing the salsaon and in our products. So, get Stay healthy and get beauty smart and learn a few new ideas I have for you. This week on TV I am sharing with my River City Live TV viewers in sunny Florida Step by Step ways to do this.
Here’s a sneak peek for you.
Step 1. Pull out all your skincare and check each bottle, tube and jar. Ask yourself when was the last time you used them? Yesterday or a year ago. Once opened they lose their potency and quality of the ingredients breaks down. Next how does it smell? Pretty or pretty ugly? Or no scent. Are the tubes closing properly or are de-funked.You decide. The point is if it smells bad or OLD or doesn’t close tightly it should be thrown away.
Step 2.Do the same to your makeup. Put all your beauty on the table. Check if your liquid or cream foundation has an odor OR if it looks different. Are your compact or eye shadow mirrors broken or the glass chipped? Lipsticks smell weird? I realize some of you Beauty Lovers will need to do a round or three of this exercise since you own so much beauty booty. But it is important to do it!
Step 4. When you are ready so shop and time and your budget allows. Create a Beauty Shopping List and start browsing and shopping to add some some new things to start with a few new things. Ask for samples if the brick and mortar beauty store has any or the online site you are shopping at has samples. Look in current magazines you subscribe to for free sample inserts inside. They have turned me into a buyer once I tried them.
Step 5. Now make a list of what you might need and go shop! Brands are not all the same. Choose wisely. Some will take a little play and experimentation to see if the brand you buy agrees with you and your skin. Especially when it comes to skincare. Also some cheap $1.00 store and other type stores where the price points are really low should proceed with caution. Some makeup brands and certain colors like a purple hued eye shadow kit may have allergic reactions on you like itchy red eyes. Be careful if you have sensitive skin.
Step 3. Next go over all your makeup brushes and sponges. They too are breeding ground of bacteria and need cleaning, sanitizing and or replacing eventually.
Step 6: Since the pandemic I am even more cautious when it comes to makeup and skincare I wash my personal sponges and brushes more often. I also have added assorted spatulas on my vanity to apply my face creams, masks and other products with. DON’T double or triple dip into your creams. This contaminates your product after even a bit of time. So, I highly recommend you do too. Also ALWAYS wash your hands before you do your makeup or clean your skin.
*NEVER share Makeup! Even if it is your family. Don’t give your used or old makeup to family or friends. Stay safe and healthy! Throw it out.
Looking for a healthier cosmetic bag?
Try a bag created by the founders of the SterileLightdisinfecting case I shared with you awhile back.
I so can’t wait to use and travel with this NEW medical grade essential bag with this roomy safer cosmetic bag. Resists bacteria and microbe growth. It also comes with an instant service shield mat.
FYI the company says it can not only be used for makeup, skincare and makeup brushes but also for:
*Have you heard there is a NEW makeup bag that has just launched in the world of beauty that is anti-microbial?
Electronics, travel bag, child toys, baby bottles and pacifiers and more. You can even use it on the tray on your next airline flight to protect yourself even further.
*In case you didn’t know office pencil sharpeners WILL not work well to sharpen your eye or lip liners. They will chew up your pencil when you go to sharpen them too. They are not a quality cosmetic sharpener. They are meant to be used for lead, charcoal or colored pencils in your office. And know theses pencils will not work for your eyes. I’ve actually had a client think it was a great beauty hack. Also the pencil can cut your curves or injure your eyes and skin. It’s not a beauty hack! It’s kinda dangerous. You can get an eye infection and incur some expensive doctor visits.
*Always buy the pencil sharpener by the pencil brand you buy. They are usually made for that liner. They ALWAYS work! Others will keep on breaking when you sharpen them. As well as waste your product. Once in a blue moon another brands pencil sharpener may work BUT that does not happen often.
The beauty tools you use matter, always think like a beauty PRO. Protect those pretty eyes, Peeps!
Because you asked…here’s a recipe for a natural way (NO harsh chemicals) to clean your makeup sponges and makeup brushes at home. This is what I use too.
However, for my beauty business I do extensive cleaning and also use SterileLight Disinfecting case.
1-2 tablespoons of Castile soap
1 1/2tablespoons white vinegar
1 cup of warm water (Use a bit more water if you would like to)
12 drops of lavender Tea Tree oil (if you prefer less essential oil and the scent use 6 drops) I love Aura Cacia essential oils.
Wash your brushes in the water with the above.
A lipstick brush or a foundation brush will be more concentrated and need EXTRA attention. Remove any slick buildup and continue wash and swishing around in the water longer. Also PRESS OUT this residue in a paper towel and make sure all the color and product is gone out of the brush.
Squeeze out the residue and rest your brushes on a paper towel overnight.
Next morning they will be dry, fresh and ready for you to make up your pretty face!
Don’t let makeup and your facial oils mount up on your makeup brushes and sponges. Don’t spread bacteria and use makeup brushes and sponges daily for weeks. Wash them at least once a week. These are tough pandemic times. You can’t be too clean or too safe. Can we? AND you don’t want those unwanted zits!
She had pink eye (or so she thinks) she said her eyes 👀 were kind of closed shut!!! For days!
She like me is in love with a good black eyeliner applied to the inner rim of the eye for definition.
I asked her if she used anything new?
She said no just the same gel eyeliner I get from you! I asked is she sharpening it on a regular basis and she said yes. I also professionally recommended to her to wash her pencil sharpener regularly and she shouted ” What?” “WASH my eyeliner pencil sharpener?”
She told me in all her life she never ever washed it.” Do you really mean I need to wash it?” This sister is older than me and an artist and fashion illustrator. I couldn’t believe she does not do it yet treats her art supplies and palettes 🎨 like gold.
Needless to say, I just mailed her a new sharpener for her eyeliners. I encouraged her to book an appointment with her dermatologist or M.D.
Here’s my simple recipe to disinfect your eye 👁 and lip pencils.
And by the way, you need a different one for each type product. You can’t use the same one. You don’t want lip pigment in your eye area and you don’t want a dark eye liner around your lips when you apply lipliner. Get it?
What you will need:
1 bottle of Dawn dish washing liquid
1 box of alcohol wipe pads from the drug store.
Soak your sharpeners in soapy water. Pull out of the sink.
Next take a Q-tip and place it into the hole. And clean all around the area inside and on the backside. There will be pencil residue all in there.
Next, I rinse it and get any Q-Tip residue out the sharpener if there is any.
Then I wipe down with an alcohol pad. Or you can use anti-bacterial wipes. Do not rinse afterwards.
Allow the sharpener to dry. You’re disinfected and ready to go.
If you want to be even more sanitary. Use SterileLight and place it on the sanitizing case. Check them out on Instagram.
*NEVER share sharpeners or eye makeup or any makeup for that matter.
Be careful, clean and safe girls! Your eyes need TLC attention. Not worth losing your eyesight over. Germs are all around us!
Here are a few you can swoon over or D.I.Y. yourself one. Inspiration is everywhere. I have a portable vanity one I use to touch up myself in my makeup studio or on set on location. Perhaps I will share that one with you one day soon.
It’s time to give your getting-ready set-up a luxe makeover.
